Does anybody game this period? It is sort of Back of Beyond I guess but doesn't have to be the East/Far East.
I ask because I have just read a book set in 1928 Egypt/Sudan, which whilst no more than a potboiler, did have some ideas for skirmish games I rather like. It is a bit Tomb Raider too, I suppose, as it has 2 expeditions, one French and one British, setting out up the Nile in search of the tomb of King Menes, the first pharaoh. On'e's escorted by some FFL, the other by...Gurkhas!!! There are a couple of no-goods, one on each side, a couple of brave heroes ditto, a vague professor, 2 faithful NCOs and, of course, a beautiful woman. They set of separately, are attacked separately and forced to combine to fight off the attackers...
All bog standard stuff, but an intriguing mix which rather caught my fancy. I have often wanted to to some later Gurkhas, and also FFL.
And then, in the way theses things happen, I found an Egyptian Temple in a cheapo shop, selling on eBay for 30-40 GBP, for 10 GBP! Serendipity!
So now I have my Gurkhas and FFL/WWI French figures boxes out to go through... Watch this space.

I've thought about this period ever since I got hold of the relevant TSATF supplement many years ago. I'm interested in British intervention in the RCW and also the NWF between the wars, but have got nowhere yet!

Well, we went ahead with the idea of the games, relocating them to Asia and specifically to Sitruckistan (Sp various). I did some Gurkhas and FFL as above, oh and some Turks, and my African Bazingers had to stand in for hostile locals.
Did 3 games in a linked narrative campaign and it all worked very well. Am working on the AAR and will put it up on my Blog when I finally complete it, along with background info Sitrucistan.
The temple became the lost Temple of Zoroaster and housed the Golden Statue of the Great Janggis Khan...

Sounds great Mike! I have just bought the new book on Dunsterforce from Caliver Books. It has a ton of wargame scenarios for that formation's campaign in the Russian Civil War. I just don't know where I'd get the figures from in 54mm (Brits in shorts and solar topees for example..).
Cheers Anthony

Re brits in shorts and solar toupees. Why not use British 8th Army with a head change? Dorset Soldiers, Langley etc would do a pugri / Solar topee Britain's style head? Atlantic and Airfix Multipose Africa Korps also had solar topees and shorts.

Newbie here. Excellent idea. I actually use the soft Airfix 8th army heads for my Crusader archers and mounted sergeants. Not bad once painted and shaded

Cheers.

ADMJ
Will do - the photos are done but not the AAR - my tardiness entirely. There are AARs of other games in the campaign, and I am supposed to reformat them into an Amazing Tails type format and get them up on the web...
