I've been exploring making my own FLW figures and after making some Christmas tree decorations (yes, *already*) out of traditional wooden 'dolly pegs' I decided that these pegs had possibilities! I began with little soldiers but the thought 'I wonder what else I can make out of pegs?'... So here is my new project, the first aircraft for my Molatarian Air Force (my FLW imagine-nation). It's a late WW1 era single seat fighter in Royalist colours - 'The Purple Baron'! But let's start from the beginning...A peg! And then this went from this... ...To this... And then to this... And then I got on to the fun part - the painting. As mentioned, I'm painting this in Molatero national colours (purple, orange and black)... The cross is my imaginary 'Royalist' emblem (more than a little Germanic influence), and it was a bit of a swine to paint freehand, but I managed it... And there you go. This model (and the models like it that will follow) is well out of scale for FLW - I guess it's roughly 28mm 'heroic' scale - BUT I am a fan of 'down-scaling' my aircraft models for use with war-game ground models...So, for example, when making 1/72 war-game models I prefer to make the game aircraft 1/100 to represent 'altitude scale'. I'll park any further air models in this series in this thread - to avoid cluttering the forum - and I have a lot of other ideas, I'll be including some of the 'Rebel' aircraft from the (imagined) 1917 Molatero Civil War. It'll be interesting to see how varied I can make the designs from basic pegs! Hope you enjoy these, Beaty

Brilliant Beaty. Don't worry about the Xmas thing - most of my presents are already wrapped and stored!!!!!
Can you do a similar article to show how you do your soldiers - especially feet, base, hats/helmets.
Best Wishes Dave

...Can you do a similar article to show how you do your soldiers - especially feet, base, hats/helmets. Best Wishes Dave I'd be glad to, I photo document all my projects so it's easy enough. More in-depth commentary is available on my blog, but it would be great to have an alternative location. Cheers, Beaty

Next little 'peg plane' underway. I thought a two-seater light bomber in the 'pusher' format would make for some nice prey for my 'Purple Baron'! The construction follows the same 'wooden bits and glue' sticky shenanigans so I'll just pop up some pics of the model primed and ready to paint... I haven't decided on a schematic yet. It's supposed to be an example of a 'rebel' aircraft from my imaginary 'Molatarian 1918 Uprising', so I have plenty of latitude. Steve.
