NON STAR WARS PROXY FIGURES There are potentially a huge number of figures that could be used in a SW setting. So feel free to add to list. But the top 3 for me are: * Space Warriors made by airfix and released in 1981. They are a fairly flamboyant but scale well with the regular SW lines. * Galaxy Laser Team by TIM MEE first released in the late 70's. Best of the bunch is the prototype wookie but a few of the other figures could be adapted. Not sure about the turtle guy or the bloke in the knee high boots but it's star wars right? * 1/32nd Airfix figures. For me these are the go-to source for conversions and customisations. There is a reasonably large range of WW2 figures that can be chopped up and given a SW feel. Scale wise some of the figures work better with SWC and some with the unleashed size but given that alot of star wars character have a military look these are a good starting point. Also there are harder to find multipose kits that would make customisation even easier. I wish I could paint as good as the pic below!

Good lists jhonpog. A few other non-Star Wars additions to use as proxies that you might be interested in: * Marty Warriors of the Galaxy - Masters of the Universe type fantasy/sci-fi figures, from the 80s. Include various aliens that can fill out an army of uglies. They can be purchased on ebay in incomplete sets, but need some kind of weapons added separately.
* True Legends Mythical Warriors - high fantasy/Lord of the Rings types. I bought a bucket of them for 10 bux while Toys r Us was still in operation. They have become somewhat expensive since then. The warrior girl figure is particularly useful for modifying into different female characters.
* SCS Direct Humans vs Aliens - cartoonish aliens and civilians. Not a bad way to get monsters for a jungle or innocent bystanders for a city.
* Battle Warriors Ninjas vs Robots - Also cartoonish, and maybe even lower quality, but the robots are the right size for mercenaries, war droids and assassins.
I have a few Star Wars model kits that also fit around the right scale. Can list those later with pics.

Cheers ninja. Thanks for these additional links they look like they'd make great conversion fodder. Like you say there's plenty of figures there that would make good local population models or merc etc etc. You could definitely fill a space cantina with those guys! Also if you mixed them in with the some of the pepsi bottle cap figures you could easily achieve a crowded city look for a game that looked very SW
Yes an entry about SW compatible model kits is needed. I can only think of 2 or 3 that might be in-scale. Looking forward to seeing those pics.

ok so here's a few quick pics of some conversions I have been working on. I really liked the way West End Games treated star wars with their rpg and miniature battles games. They did a good job of fleshing out one of the forces that is only glimpsed in the OT; the imperial army. I like idea of their being a large armed forces that does all work and clean up after the stormtroopers have done their thing. There's a good graphic novel that shows this too in the Dark Horse Empire series. So I decided to use airfix british commandoes (oh yeah and a matchbox one I had handy) as a base for some imperial army as a simple first conversion to see if I could get them to look right. I moulded and cast up a bunch of general veers heads (the only way to get this helmet really) and they weren't too big against the figure so I pushed on. Next I had hacked up a unleashed sandtrooper, the one kneeling with a grenade launcher and a blaster (my least favourite pose, what the hell is that guy doing?) and cast up a some extra blaster and a launcher. After looking at the avaliable weapons I could replicate I went with the larger options so they are a little oversized with the figure but I think they work well. I did a basic paint job and overall I think they came out ok. I carved off some googles and hacked up a snow trooper to make a sergeant type aswell Attachments:

I've also had a go at scratch building a power droid, another missing figure in 54mm. I just dropped this guy in a mould so I will be casting up a few soon. If anyone's interested in one let me know, maybe trade for something?

I'm really impressed by your enthusiasm and skill, J! Marvelous work, all round. Hoping you'll post some shots of games one day.

Thanks G it's early days for me with this really I'm still building up my forces, trying to sort out terrain and even a rule set. At this stage it's either SWMB or galatic heroes but I'm thinking about a homebrew set of rules too. So the only games I have space for at the moment is with my 6 year old son. It's pretty much a free for all, no dice are rolled there are no reference sheets to look at, combat is fast and furious. Oddly enough I always end up losing. Our last game was Rebels vs Imperials vs Droids vs Dinosaurs on desert/ snow planet. I'm not sure if you're allowed to climb on the table during play we are sorting that out. Mind you it did illustrate that fast pace battles work really well in SW. So I'm leaning more towards home brew rules at the moment Attachments:

Love all the info on figures. jhonpog I also love the idea of the regular Imperial Army being the mass of grunts, while the stormtroopers are elite units (IIRC Timothy Zahn took this approach with his Thrawn Trilogy of novels) and wish good figures for regular army troops had been produced (though the SWC "AT-PT Pilots" could be used if you don't mind the facemasks and single pose).
Can you elaborate on your casting/"cloning" process?
I'd be very interested to try something like that myself one of these days.

This is my first attempt at doing a Speeder bike using a Deagostino STAR WARS Vehicle collection diecast and plastic model. I still have to refine the rider and paint it up but the scale looks O.K. and clone him to create a LANCE, the unit designation for a Scout Speeder Bike unit. leswhite That speeder conversion is awesome.

Awesome stuff! I have one of the boxes of Plex stormtroopers; I tried to get both but the second one got lost in the container ship from Japan and never arrived (have yet to get a refund 1.5 years later...). Nice! Hey post some comparison pics when you can. Sorry to hear about the lack of refund jhonpog A bit late, but here's a comparison pic of the Plex stormtroopers to SWC troopers. As you can see they're a bit shorter/skinnier, and less detailed. They also feel "chalky," for lack of a better word, and lighter/harder than the SWC plastic, the heft and flexibility of which I really like. All-in-all nice to get some new poses, but not as quality as the Command stuff.

I have that second set of stormtroopers as well. The product line is called Nara Best Show, and they made a similar product for Mobile Suit Gundam (54mm rx-78s and zakus).
The poses are nice but the details are simply too far off. I used them as conversions for Shore troopers since they might as well be.

Hey aduck yeah I've been wanting to do this thread for ages I don't why it took me so long but there you go There's the Empire comic series, plus Zahn's books, WEGs rulebook, the mud troopers from Solo not sure if there's anything else but yeah it makes things more interesting especially for conversions. I hadn't though to use the atpt pilots but's that's a really good idea cheers! As for cloning I've been making moulds of heads, weapons and occasionally whole bodies and then casting them in a fast cure resin to use for conversions. I use silicone rubber for the moulds, a polymer clay to make a mould wall around a head or whatever and urethane casting resin to cast pieces. Smooth On who I think are an american outfit sell internationally and their stuff is pretty good. You can buy reasonably small quantities of everything that will get you ALOT of heads and bits and pieces. I'm happy to send stuff to fellow converters if there's anything you need and if I have it. At the moment I've got a bunch of imperial fleet trooper heads a few x wing heads and I'm going to cast up my power droid soon. Thanks for that comparison pic I like the pose of the left hand figure, you can never have enough stormtroopers

here's some quick rubbish pics of a mold I made of the e-web generator and a first cast yet to be cleaned up. They make really good scatter terrain. Unfortunately I never got hold of the generator that goes with the rebel turrets gah! They never seem to come up on ebay but it would another good one to mold Attachments:

jhonpog Your Imperial 'Grunts' look pretty good, the helmet size seems reasonable as the illustrations of these guys shows them with big helmets compared to stormtroopers. For the guys here not familiar with the Graphic Novels here are some illustrations of IMPERIAL DEMOLITION SQUAD , they have unique back packs and carry different types of explosives. The Officer even has a unique battle dress uniform but still in the Army Green colour.
