My 54mm Starlux Chasseurs d’alpine finally got back from London yesterday. I/they are looking for opponents. Can anyone recommend any 54mm Alpini out there? If not German mountain troops will be the way forward.

I'm looking at doing some Chassuers d'alpine for WW1, so have had the occasion to do some research on opponents. I found loads of images from the old magazine 'Le Petit Parisienne' and most show them fighting Germans wearing picklehaube, some in greatcoats some in regular uniform. Shown here are Chassuers attacking a German trench and Chassuers attacking a German Customs post in the Vosges 1914 There have been a few sets of Italian Alpini produced by Italian companies like - ATLANTIC, FONTANINI, CANE, etc but they normally don't have very useable poses and in most cases are quite difficult to find AND 60mm or taller. The ones shown below are by CANE and are 70mm tall. The ATLANTIC ones represented a contemporary unit when made in the 1960s, although couldmpossibly pass as WW2. The only German Mountain troops I can think of are the AIRFIX ones in 54mm. I suppose any Germans in Greatcoats would work like the TSSD set, or maybe repaint some AIRFIX Afrika Korps with added equipment, back packs and skis. What era are the STARLUX figures supposed to represent ?

The Germans formed their own Alpenkorps en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpenkorps_(German_Empire) after their experience fighting the Chasseurs d’alpine. Photos show them wearing the covered Jaeger hat/helmet. The rest of the uniform would be as for Armies in Plastic late war Germans wearing puttees instead of boots.
