As mentioned I am doing 2 campaigns for the Napoleonic era - Pennisular Campaign in Spain and the War in America.
The British Infantry can be used in both ,so I decided to make more units representing them to give me some more game options.
When I started this project AIP hadn't brought out the BRITISH LINE INFANTRY set, so I started off looking at my other options and decided that the CONFEDERATE INFANTRY had all the poses I might need, plenty of action. Plus the Artillery figure poses, which are all wearing infantry equipment will be useful for extra odd poses, these are now available in sets without the guns so it is even easier to start 'mucking' about with them.
Here are the master conversions for each of the units. Same pose with different heads.
The Light Infantry Shako is the head from an AIP 95th Rifleman, the Belgic Shako is the head from an AIP British Line Artilleryman and the American head is from the covered Belgic shako head of a 'Call To Arms' British Guard Infantryman as I wanted the taller profile more in keeping with that design.
I might repaint the trousers of the Light Infantryman white to make him fit better into the Pennisular Campaign.
Here is the 1812 Infantry group at various WIP stages. Still deciding on a 'proper' red colour for the jacket - dull or bright.
This shows the Artillery poses and how they may be used to create Command figures and extra poses. The figure on the left will be my 60th Rifles Officer. I'm not a fan of figures looking through telescopes so always find the time to work out what else they can be doing ,this guy is ready for anything ! I am considering doing a unit of HIGHLAND LIGHT INFANTRY once I decide on what type of shako I want, they have a couple of options which involve some intricate painting detail so they are on the back burner at the moment.
These artillery bodies give you a lot of extra leeway to create more animated pose to service your guns, if you replace the standing legs for the ramrod and hand spike guys with the aerobic leg position of the Confederate firing the rifle with no hat on, you get a very dramatic action crew. The pieces leftover give you two regular firing poses to add to your line.
The Artillery officer can then easily be made into a Standard bearer/ensign, which you will want for a unit focal point.
Now that the British Line Infantry are available I will be converting them into 95th/60th rifles to give me more action poses than the AIP 95th Rifles set offered, it has too many firing poses for my liking and not enough movement. So plenty to work out yet.
Also looking at producing a unit of Americans in the GREY uniforms, just as a contrast on the board. Then I'll think about Militia and Indians.
