Perhaps this should be in a new folder in the rules section: The Men Who Would be Kings.
Scenario Two is enjoyable to play. The tactical challenge is in the selection of the units and their disposition. After that, the luck of the dice is decisive.
This scenario requires that you set up a village with five buildings at the midline of the table. The invaders intend to destroy buildings, so, playing solo, i assumed they would rely on a field cannon. They brought three infantry units to defend the cannon: FFL, British and CSA Butternuts.
The defender (me) could only place two units at the beginning of the game, so i chose marines and Prussians. The other two units can be brought in from the far edge of the table. I chose one mounted infantry and one irregular cavalry: Rough Riders and Boer Commandoes.
The invaders formed a box around the cannon to protect it. My front line attacked their front line while the cav were racing to our support. Casualties were replaced as they fell. The invaders started pulling men from the flanks to fill the front line. My mounted infantry swung around to attack the weakened flanks. They soon collapsed on all three sides and the artillery crew were killed.
during the battle, the cannon scored seven hits on the village. According to the rules, they should have been allowed to count two shots for each crew member each turn, but that did not make sense to me, so i let them fire once each turn. However, rules state that ten hits are required to destroy a building. That does not seem right. One explosive shell should have been enough. Anyway, either the village was destroyed or none of the buildings were destroyed. How would you score it?
