I saw, I loved, I bought. I'm referring to the new Macedonian figures from Expeditionary force Singapore. You can view them via www.expeditionaryforce.sg. I wasn't going to start a new period or range of figures (how many of us have said that before!!?) but once I'd seen these figures, I was smitten. It was love at first sight!!!! If you're new to Ancients in 54mm and want some lovely figures, or just keen to expand a range, look these figures up. The sculpts are brilliant and they paint up really well. the range is very good, with Phalangites, Hypaspists, Companions, Agrianians (spears and slings, so you can do Agrianians and Rhodian slingers), Paeonians, Thessalians, Greek Hoplites and cavalry, Cretan archers. Have a good look. You won't be disappointed. They are soon to release some Greek artillery. On the Persian side, you will have to do some converting or adapting as they are geared towards the earlier period, although they are releasing the Apple Bearers soon and they do a magnificent scythed chariot!!! The Kardakes are produced and they are fine figures. Although they have the Persian wicker shields, you can buy hoplite shields separately. The figures are perhaps closer to 60mm than 54mm, but are lovely. Sorry to go on, but I really think they're fine figures and deserve bringing 5o peoples attention. If you look or buy (they're about £21/£22 per box for 5 cavalry or 9 infantry), let me know what you think. Best Wishes daveL

I recently bought their WW2 German heavy weapons teams to supplement my 54mm Airfix German infantry for Airfix Battles. As Davel says their figures are excellent.

I have seen the figures - the company started with painted 40mm Dark Ages figures.
The ancients are on my list for a possible Command and Colours Ancients set up in the future.

I haven't seen Command & Colours Ancients, only the Napoleonics. What size units would fit C&C Ancients and is the Ancient game worth getting?
have you seen that their upand coming game is going to be C&C Tricorne, so that'll fit in with the AWI period.

CC:Ancients is one of the best iterations of the system in the opinion of many. I have recently acquired a hex mat with six inch hexes to play the game in 54mm. Depending on how you base your figures you could probably use 8-strong infantry units in two ranks and remove two figures per hit (cavalry can take 3 hits and elephants 2 hits). There is very little man-made scenery in the scenarios so no need to worry about fitting a town into a six inch hex.

C&C:A works really well. You can also get most of the information for it on the website including a load of extra scenarios for periods not covered by the rules. If you made your own cards you can actually play it without buying the game...
I regret not buying the HAT Punic wars figures when they were more freely available.

Hi. Just to let people with an interest in Ancients know that Expeditionary Force have released Persian Immortals in robes. They're lovely looking figures and have the old shields that look a little like a violin shape (as the Early Achamenids had) and a mix of bare headed and tiara heads. If you wanted heads all the same style, you can sometimes ask to order extra heads. When I ordered some extra Shields and panther skins for my horses, I think I was charged something like $0.8 per item. Have a look. I think you'll be impressed.

The Persians and most of Expeditionary Force's other ranges were on display 'in the flesh' at the London Toy Soldier Show yesterday. They are indeed lovely figures.

Hi. Just had some info from Scott Lam from Expeditionary Force. They hope to have Persian Sparabara and Apple Bearers plus artillery ready for the end of December. The artillery crews will be ready January or February.
Great news. You'll never guess what I'll be spending my Christmas money on?!!!!!

The range is looking more and more tempting at some point in the future - possibly for C&C:Ancients once I've finished the Punic Wars setup
