I really like W Britain's the War Along the Nile range.
Does anyone know of any skirmish rules where each side has 4 figs or each player controls one Figure?
Many Thanks
Rich

Gaslight would work - though it tends to work best where you have units of "Extras" with a character or 2, so not quite as low level as you are looking for. I can't think of a colonial set off the top of my head but you are looking for something like En Garde! or similar, I guess.

'Colonial Skirmishes' by the Skirmish Wargames Group. I'm not sure if the rules are still in print, but the group is still around in some form, I think. Mike Blake (Botch), a leading member of the group might, be a member here. If not, he should be.

While I'm sure Featherstone's skirmish system may serve you well, here are some others: Two-page Skirmish by Steve Winter looks to do just what you're talking about and it's free. Little Colonial Rules This one is also designed for 1:1, small scale gaming. And is free too. To Be Continued ... (the GASLIGHT pulp rules) would work (they're included in the compendium) as they are pseudo-role-playing and oriented at 1:1. That said, I have also played regular GASLIGHT (which I love) at 1:1 by making each figure an unattached main characters (on one side at least, see here). That is to say, the figures were each a unit. I then added hit points so that the hero was harder to kill than everyone else. You could obviously do away with that change. You might find that Space: 1889 (an RPG) and the accompanying Space: 1889, A Soldier's Companion (RGP supplement and wargaming rules that, as I understand it, have some overlap with The Sword & the Flame) for weapon data, could work at this scale too. Just dispense with all of the setting fluff. We Can Be Heroes 2 would probably work too - it reminds me a bit of GASLIGHT with heroes and sidekicks. Finally, another free game that I rather liked in an earlier incarnation that works at this level and is fairly generic (and easily customized): IN-RADIC It does not use dice, and instead uses playing cards. Best of luck, -John

John,
A good selection of rules.
I like the 2 page skirmish rules so will give them ago.
The Featherstone's Skirmish book arrived yesterday, I have had a quick read and that looks great as well.
Many Thanks
Rich

Bit late picking this one up - had some real trouble logging in... The Skirmish Wargame Colonial Rules are OOP, and I don't have a scanned pdf or MS Word set. I do have the Old West rules, and the 10th Century Modern rules in these formats though.
BTW the OW rules will be republished in book form soon by John Curry, with lots of new material which we developed after the original rules were written and some of the OW scenarios we have played over the years.

You are right, Billyfish. Perhaps John Curry will get around to reprinting these as well.
