It's been mentioned to me many times that some collectors don't want a full set of the AIP figures, preferring to keep one of each pose ONLY, but what to do with the half set or more that you have left, well my answer is always the same CONVERT THEM! Make them into something that you will find useful for more games or I suppose just give them away or sell them on. Naturally I prefer the Converting option and find that with a little thought and a quick study of illustrations in books and the internet that something can be done with all types of figures.
Here is what I did with a batch of AIP 95th Rifles. The poses are fairly 'bog' standard - Firing, advancing, running, and the straight leg trousers are quite helpful. This pic shows the figures with some 'green stuff' added to extend the length of the jacket , add hats, etc. The rifles are spares by TSSD.
So the first idea was ACW Union Infantry in Sack coats, something not currently done by any maker. This shows the various stages of painting and I even managed a dismounted cavalryman.
Next ,I thought short jackets that's handy, and a few 'pork pie' hats later I have 1846 Mexican-American War American Infantry. Again various painting stages, I think you get the idea now that I like to take WIP pics They could be re-painted as US Marines or even stand in for New Orleans Greys at the Alamo.

With this batch I tried AIP Napoleonic Prussian Infantry as ACW types with boots, maybe call them Texans. The figures on the top level have had head swaps with the AIP Confederate set plus a little additional green stuff putty to give them all shell jackets. I removed the coatee tails from the original figures. Although the poses of all the AIP sets are similar there is a enough variation to create a group that looks realistic in as much as they are not a group of clones The front line, lower group, are AIP Confederate Infantry with bodies halved and the pieces swapped. The green guy is a 95th rifleman with a bit more putty work to take away the large bayonet and change some detail.

Still using leftovers but a little more complicated to construct we have 'action packed' poses.
'Loading under Fire' and 'Hell for Leather'
The green figure is a 95th Rifleman with arms repositioned to ramming down using a TSSD spare rifle and dress makers pin, as the ramrod. Green stuff kepi completes the look. The other is the charging Confederate with left arm remade with brown/green stuff and a TSSD rifle in his right hand, full beard added for that authentic ACW look !
