Did a couple of Americans for 1846-48 as an experiment (with grandiose ideas of doing Mex-American War in 54mm) some years ago. First up is an Infantryman using an italeri ACW figure with greenstuff hat (just noticed a white chip on his percussion cap pouch ) and Cartridge box cross belt and epaulettes added

Next up a US cavalryman using an Italeri Scots Grey Trooper with carbine modified and headdress cut down with greenstuff crown mounted on (I think - it was a long time ago) and Italeri ACW horse (might have been Imex?)

Stu your conversions look GREAT!! Good use of the useless pose from the ITALERI Scots Greys. Always thought they should all have been in charging poses just like the famous painting. I like the ITALERI Horses for style and size.
I did something similar but tried on a more commercial basis , but that didn't work out as I couldn't keep up with demand
Using the shell jacket poses form the Accurate ACW Infantry sets. The Pork pies were done with plasticine and superglue, this was before I discovered 'Green Stuff'
Then I did an experiment with the DSG Argentinian cavalry into US Dragoons.
They came out O.K. but I didn't really like the way they sit on the horses due to the bad placement of the pre drilled holes in the riders.
I seem to have misplaced the saddle blankets somewhere. The figures were just re-carved and pork pie cap tops with green stuff.

Nice conversions Les, useful for doing early Indian Wars with! Never thought about using the DSG Argentinian cavalry, at the time I had the Scots Greys and didn't know what to do with them until I had a lightbulb moment

After looking at my original Infantry conversion a month ago, I decided I didn't like the position of the figure to be able to be used in a unit, then had a light bulb moment and realised he'd make an ideal artillery crewman, so here he is, re-converted into a US Gunner from the foot artillery. I have now also selected 3 more figures to make up a crew of 4 which I'll post when complete Attachments:
