Played a four player game of A Gentleman's War ACW flavored last Saturday. Approximately 26 points per player in a snatch and load the wagon scenario that was forgotten as both sides dug in and started exchanging gun fire from the get go.
Pilum40's Rebels on the move. Facing off against some advancing Zoo-zoo's and an artillery piece on the Union side of things.
His opponent on the other end. The Zouaves would not be moved and the shelling from the artillery would halt the Confederate advance throughout the game.
The poor Union wagon waited out the game and was never loaded. For the record the Confederate wagon wasn't loaded either.
My side was maneuvering through the trees and trying not to get disordered. I'll note some Union skirmishers got to the trees and I had hell trying to dislodge them. Casualties piled up and I could not catch a break this game.
Skirmishers just plinking away at my troops.
An artillery barrage did drive the skirmishers back but really it was too late and the damage was done.
My own skirmishers did... Well, nothing noteworthy besides not hitting anything and being ignored mostly.
Right before the end and final two turns a Union player used a What Luck Chap! card that diverted the cavalry down the wrong fork in the road and off the table as they misread their map. They hightailed it out and although not the linchpin holding the Conferate army together it was enough to really put the nail in our collective coffin.
And that was about it. I was rubbish at explaining rules this time around and then was rubbish at taking pictures on top of it all. Still, had a great time with great friends. A Gentleman's War is a fun game, light hearted, and very much about brave toy soldiers doing their best to fight it out.
