I have started working on the scenery for the Salute participation game and thought I'd document the build here to show people what is happening. Basically I am adding to the board I created for the games Anthony and I ran at Cavalier in 2018 to make it larger and to add some extra elements. First up is the train track: This is made from laser cut 2mm MDF with 2mm rails added on top. There will be troop wagons and a locomotive: This shows what it looks like with the other tiles The troop wagons are designed to hold a unit of 6 infantry figures. I have also started work on Fort Pippin which just needs some adjustment to the wall tabs and that will be done as well... More updates when things are painted.

Starting to layout the board and work out how many extra tiles I need. I have decided on a 6 foot by 3 foot board. I was going to go to 4 feet, but if we are aiming at a 10 turn game to complete each one in a maximum of an hour I think 3 feet is better. The board is 18 tiles long which means the relief force starting at one end will take 4-5 turns using the train at 3 tiles a turn or 5-6 turns using the road to reach Fort Pippin. Still trying to decide if we should have 2 players a side or 3 players? They would have either 9 or 6 tiles width each, and could have 3-4 units each or 4-5 units each depending on how many units I fix on... It will all come out in playtesting I am sure... I also received the 6 wrist bands for entry to Salute for the game so will hand out those to the people helping next week and sort out posting on the others.

Let me know if you need a hand with playtesting...I'm sure I can juggle work! Thanks Alistair - might try and run a game down the club for testing as well as another couple beforehand. I'll let you know.

Finished building the scenery and almost finished the painting for the game test on Saturday.... Close up of Fort Pippin... Just a bit of spraying grey to do. Later everything will be properly varnished shiny...

You have done an excellent job Mike, it looks splendid. I look forward to hearing how tomorrow’s playtesting goes. It is a feast for the eyes for everyone irrespective of age or wargaming interest. If you wanted to use the set up for more modern games you could do worse that listen to the music of Half Man Half Biscuit 😊

Salute has been postponed until 2021- effectively cancelled, but this stops SLW having to refund everyone and then take the money again for next year's show. So I have plenty of time to work on the game until then.
Maybe we need a windmill and a miller....?

Huzzah for Salute 2021 ! A windmill and miller sound an excellent idea. Perhaps Mrs Honeyman could delay units a turn if they throw a one due to her gossiping. Anyone got any other suggestions?

www.t-web.co.uk/trumpgo.htmI found Mrs Honeyman irritating even as a child, even before I had met this Ancient Mariner type ... Chance card: Windy Miller would have to have a nod off due to cider and the mill stops / catch fire! Call Captain Flack and the Trumpton Fire Brigade! Incendiaries, Paratroops stuck on the Trumpton town hall clock, UXBs and thermo nuclear devices no problem, no problem. Elevate! Happy days I spent in TrumptonShire, which sits right next to my ancestral county of Yestershire. I shall have the Yestershire Rifles and the Yestershire Yeomanry ( the TwoYs or "Too Wise by halves"), the Yestershire Constabulary and the Yestershire Volunteer Training Corps / Home Guard on stand by if any of those "Furrinners" try invading Yestershire at the same time as Trumptonshire ... slope arms, order arms ...

Somewhere near Winkstead Hall in Chigley there is a canal and a wharf which must be of some strategic importance.
Mr Swallow the Warfinger at Treddles Wharf: At Treddles Wharf the canal meets the railway. Mr Swallow is always on hand with his crane to transfer crates between Lord Belborough's train and Mr Rumpling's barge.
"Mr. Swallow's Song (The Crane)"
Lifting the boxes and barrels and bundles Stacking the drainpipes and logs from the woods A crane does the work as it rattles and rumbles Shifting the lumber and loading the goods
