Just a thought but as we are all in for a bit at home I wondered if we might try a communal project as part of the group,Woking 2021? I imagined it thus that we all paint up so many figures and use them communally at the Woking day next year. This would be part of the day as well as everything else people would play on the day. If we proceeded thus it wouldn’t be onerous in terms of money or painting time. Sometimes a joint project can be a change from our own plans and something diverting... So how’s up for this and what period will we focus on? Cheers Alan

Sounds very interesting Alan. I suppose it partly depends on:
1 Mike giving the go ahead 2 how many attend next year.( I know some clubs do this by choosing a topic and then every member paints a few units and the project ends up with enough figures to put on a game, and as you say,it isn't too costly in time and money.) 3 people liking the period chosen and being able to access the figures
But a very interesting idea

Sounds a great idea. It should probably be something we can adapt various figures for to keep it interesting. So I think it should be a eriod that msot of us don't have figures for at the moment.
Possibilities are:
1) Very British Civil War - lots of opportunities to make interesting units. 2) Imaginary Balkan Wars for 1900-1912? Could have a load of different units and uniforms. 3) Victorian SF - odd units and machines..
If we got people to create one unit each we could play a game using a simple ruleset or Gentleman's War or something similar?

Style - traditional gloss or modern matte?
If gloss then the period doen't matter to me, as I would be doing them just for the game. If matte, 2) above would be most use, as I could weave them into my Back of Beyond forces somehow...
Ironically some of the group (Skirmish Wargamers Collective) who specialise in 54mm did a VBCW game at a do...I didn't get inolved so as to not get caught up in yet another period!

I did a 54mm VBCW game at Salute a few years back as well - using a whole range of toys - there are pictures of it floating around the internet - I'll see if I can track some down in between shifts

Glad folk are interested. I wonder if others might join in. I am easy about what we do and wonder if we can move towards some agreement about themes etc this week?

I Don't want to sound like a creep, but what about a theme based on figures that Mike supplies, so we not only have a game to prepare for, but also support Mike in the process?
Any suggestions? And if people agree, can Mike let us know the figures he is able to supply?
Just a thought.
Best Wishes Dave

Sounds an excellent plan. I do like the idea of supporting a trader, Mike,at this challenging time for businesses. Perhaps Mike you could comment about suitable figures you stock, thanks.

Great photos, the vickers tank is amazing, who makes it? I like the table of posters too. I really enjoyed playing vbcw with you at Woking last year, it was a fun and engaging game.

It's a scratchbuilt paper and card one someone was flogging off with a load of other kits at my local club think it cost me a £1 - we always do a large table display of period(ish) ephemera and I did a couple of mock up Whistock style Britains re boxes for King Edward V111's Guards and Spode's Blackshorts - they are kicking around somewhere in the loft with the other toys - probably got thick end of 200 plus figures here all in the toy style for VBCW - sadly key worker otherwise I would drag them all out and do some pics but the link gives you some idea - I hope to see folk at some point to play with toys again

Best Wishes Dave Although nice idea, I am not sure I'd want to limit the project to just one line of figures - the appeal is seeing what people come up with for conversions, etc. from plastic figures or a mix of metal and plastic. At the moment I am very busy as everyone has decided to repair the old figures they have in the back of their cupboards while they are shut in their homes! I will get a downtown of the paint side of the business, I expect, as all the retailers that sell it at wargames shows will not be restocking... but hopefully that will be balanced by some direct sales. I personally like the the idea of 1912/1913 Imaginary Balkan wars - so Ruritania vs Grand Fenwick, for example.

Imagineering in the Balkans has a splendid ring to it as an idea. Plenty of opportunities for exotic units, colourful personalities and intrigue. What do others think? Time to get out my copy of “The prisoner of Zenda “ me thinks. I like your idea of everyone using whatever figures they fancy. P.s I really like the vbcw but as Tim has so much kit already perhaps another period is a good idea.
