Well, I can't come but I could paint up some plastic figures and mail them to someone. (Plastic figures get cheaper airfare than me.)

Ah yes, Vanished Armies, a good suggestion for ideas.
As an aside but possibly relevant, for those want to do some conversions, Tradition of London have some useful metal castings for heads etc.
And so does the Dorset range, now under Mike's command. I am thinking of a small unit of Palace Guards like Maximillians in Mexico, with the helmets with eagles on! Do you have one in the Dorset range Mike - I cannot remember?
Spanish uniforms of the period are also rather smart - not Balkan but could provide some ideas.

I'm in. Would have loved a Steampunk/ victorian theme but this sounds good. I am just starting to tinker with pre ww1 toys anyway so I'm sure I can fit a unit or two into my plans that would serve for both.

Great! Tell us a little more about your pre ww1 toys if that’s ok with you.

Perhaps a little Edwardian Steampunk could be woven in???

My pre wwi toys are basically a load of hollowcast flat caps which I am going to strip and repaint including cavalry and artillery. The figures are mainly Britains and Johillco and have cost me very little so far. I am also repainting about 40 pith helmeted highlanders in khaki to go with them. Basically Gentlemans War khaki army with some vehicle support and the odd bi plane. I have just painted a really nice steam powered tank which is technically 28mm but looks great as a 54mm tankette. Not quite sure where its all going but alien invasion/war of the worlds vibe feels good.

This project is sounding great.
Now we've decided that it's 12 infantry and 6 cavalry figures to a unit, can we decide how many units and what type each if us needs to do to make a game. And no one has mentioned artillery yet.
Regarding infantry, I've seen 3 nice types I think I'd like to consider for the game. I've been onto Andrew's site at Replica Metal Soldiers. There I've seen some lovely Argentinian cadets, Uraguyan infantry and Argentine infantry that I think would do well for a Rupertanian army. What do others think?
Haven't seen any cavalry figures yet.
Best Wishes Dave

Its cheating but I might do it anyway, just to give them a chance to get out of the box...I have a couple of sets of Beau Geste figures, marching Japanese and a Russian Band I seem to recall, sent for review in Collectors Gazette years and years ago. Will dig them out an take some photos.
But I will actually do some from scatch too. I am leaning towards Bodden-Bumberg c1900, as it gives me more scope, wont step on anyone elses toes if they want to do Ruritania, and I already have the background fluff. At the risk of annoying members, I might post the BB back story here, or prhaps on my blog? As I have said, it is 18th C, and we play in (sorry) 15mm.
How many units? - whatever you feel like? Small armies can be combined as allies, therby providing some natural rifts, off and even on the battlefield.
Artillery - yes, of course. BB may well have reverted to muzzle-loading, rather like GB did, so will be hopelessly outgunned by the Germanic breechloaders!

Mike , I didn’t know you had a blog , could you post a link please? A back story sounds a great idea. Anyone fancy( further down the line) creating a map incorporating our countries/ principalities? This was done very successfully on the Emperor v Elector blog some years ago for the 18th century . I don’t see why it couldn’t be done for our project. Another way is to have a page here where folk can introduce their country in a paragraph- monarch, capital city, industry etc and maybe a national flag.

The blog is most noticeable in its lack of updated content I'm afraid, FWIW it is at: lifes-a-botch.blogspot.co.uk/.
Bodden-Bumburg has a map, the info you list and AAR, regiments, uniforms and colours but all for the 1740-60s.
Once we get something sorted, I guess there would be no reason why group members participating shouldn't set up games to play solo or amongst themselves during the year, perhaps all leading to a climactic battle at the end of the campaigning season at the AGM?

As a huge imagi-nations fan I'm loving how this project has evolved. I fully support the idea of a map.

In keeping with FEMbruary 2021 I have a 54mm Britain's female unit planned with Dorset arms that would equally do VBCW or Balkans ImagiNations.
What size unit and what style / number on basing are we envisaging?
VBCW seem to be individual basing.
