I am terribly sorry to hear of Les White's passing. I never met the man in person, but I felt that I knew him well from our email conversations going back to 2018. I last had an email from him on January 16th and he sounded in good spirits; in fact, his chronic medical issues seemed to be improving. In my eyes he was a genius when it came to artistic conversions of plastic figures. Who else could look at a Weston Mexican peasant wielding a machete and turn it into a Celtic warrior? Certainly not me! He shared scores of tips on how I could make miniatures of under served toy soldier periods. I was very fortunate to be able to purchase some of his Boxer Rebellion conversions on eBay and they are wonderful figures. I think I will get them out of storage and onto the table in his honor. He was a one of a kind contributor to the hobby and he will be greatly missed.

Hear hear. I met him a couple of times at the PW show, and the Midlands show, when he was well enough to make the trek down from Glasgow. He looked exactly like what he was - a feisty wee Glaswegian and great company.
I have some of his Old West metal Mexicans, still waiting to be painted.
For me, not only was a genius at converting, his way of presenting his conversions was amazing to. He was a real stickler for detail - ammo pouches had to exactly the right shape or they would be replaced - and we are talking millimetres here! This was an aspect where he left me standing - and we often had to agree to disagree.
He was so full of ideas, always firing of responses to me when I asked, with potential conversions. And, on top of all that talent he was also a really dogged reasearcher on the net, finding all sorts of obscure stuff to share.
I used to really look forward to his emails, they woild stimulate a flurry of activity on my part. And have I ementioned his casting ability? He introduced me to Bluesstuff for moulds and the warm water meltable plastic casting material.
Raise your glasses gentlemen - "Absent friends!"

oh man I'm really sorry to hear this news. Les was a great source of ideas and information; I very much valued his feedback on my conversions and he was always quick to answer questions and give me some direction.
Although I am very new to this forum (and this scale) I'll really miss Les and all his input; the place will be smaller without him

Had a message from Nick Stern quoting Les White where Les said he was hoping his post count would soon get him to the next grade after Sergeant. Nick thought it would be a nice gesture to promote him - so I have upgraded him to Honorary General in recognition of the useful contribution he made to this forum...
