Love the dragoons and lancers! Only wish you could get more figures for the price.

Thanks for the update rahway. Beautiful aren't they? I've ordered some cavalry-should be with me in a couple of weeks. Will post a review when they arrive. Hope they fit in with the Victrix, but will use them anyway as They're so lovely.
Best Wishes Dave

Hi guys. Well, they've finally arrived - the French cavalry. I bought some Dragoons and lancers-I chose the option with the trumpeter.
Will post a photo when I've sorted them out (hopefully, if I can remember how to do it!!!!!) showing a comparison with the Italeri cavalry.
The moulding is very good, with very few mould lines (fewer than on the Ancient figures). Horses are very nice and come with a square saddle cloth with border moulded onto the horse figures. Then in the pack, the saddle cloths/sheepskin are moulded separately for you to add which is a good idea (although you can see this moulded cloth beneath the sheepskin when you add them which I thought was a shame). They have the pack/roll moulded onto the rear of these, although the trumpeter has his separately. The only thing I was surprised at was that the heads on the horses are cast separately, unlike the ancients which are moulded all in one. I'm not sure why this has been done and can't think of a reason why it has been done this way, so that'll be a bit more filling with the milliput. But that's just informing you of the product and not a criticism.
I ordered the pack with the trumpeter as I like to see them in a unit. I prefer the older uniforms so you can reverse the coat colours (I just love those pink facings), but of course, as these figures are for the 1812-15 period, they have the Imperial livery, which is very nicely done on the figures.
The Lancers have a hard plastic lance with a separate moulded pennant and lance point. This is very well done and the relief is NO BENDY LANCES. Swords/scabbards are separate and the Dragoons have a nicely moulded carbine to attach (not sure where to place these yet). The Dragoons have the swords attached to the right arms and I'm pleased that they are fairly straight, so hopefully no bendy swords.
Hope that's of interest. Just got to put them together now and hope they'll match the Victrix and Italeri figures already in my collection. But first impression is that they are very nice figures and look like they'll paint up well. Faces are nicely moulded as are the helmets and nice fluffy detail on the Lancers comb.
Best Wishes Dave

Thanks for the information Dave.
The photos show both heavy and light cavalry horses with the same bridle. If they did not separate the head in order to be able to do different heads for the different types of cavalry the decision may have been related to the mold making.

I have received the Officers set, which contains two mounted figures.
There are two different reads for each horse. One is straight and the other is turned to the left. In addition there are two choices for the left hind leg.
These animals are actually slightly bigger than the horses in the Italeri Dragoon and Staff sets.

So - roughly the same size as the Italeri French Hussar horses? (lovely horses but surely a big old nag for a Hussar!).
As an aside, I have several boxes of the Italeri confederate cavalry set just for the horseflesh - gave the figures away (until Mike Blake reminded me of the first rule of wargaming which is that "everything will come in handy sooner or later").
Cheers Andy

I purchased each of the Chasseur sets from Steve Weston at the London Toy Soldier Show on Saturday, and agree with Davel's comments above. My only quibble with the figures is that the cuffs are moulded with three button flaps rather than the pointed cuffs I would have expected. I've checked all my available references and can only find pointed cuffs for this branch. Unless anyone knows better? If not, although minor, this is a tad disappointing.

Great news. Just been on the Ex-Force site and they've released the Royal Marines and American Militia in civilian dress. They're both under the War of 1812 section of the catalogue. I'd expected the Royal Marines to be with the British sector, as I think they also played a part in the Peninsular operations. But no matter. They're here and looking good. Can't wait for the Highlanders to be released. I've already got the flags for the Gordon Highlanders!!!
Best Wishes Dave

Thanks for the heads up, Dave! I just ordered the 1812 Militia types. It looks like they will also be handy for the Alamo and other conflicts in the first half of the 19th Century.
I wish the RM figures weren't wearing the backpack. IIRC, most of their operations were landing parties, not far from their ships.

Just had an order confirmation from Scott Lam from Ex-Force this morning, and he said the Highlanders are due to be released. Great news. Been waiting for a decent set of them in this scale. A pity I won't be able to get any before Christmas - but something to look forward to in the New Year.
Best Wishes Dave

Yes, I saw the press release and pictures Scott sent to the hobby dealers. They look very well done. The British cavalry can't be hard off now.

Just seen that Ex-Force have released Flank Company Highlanders. On the future releases page they've also got new photos of RHA gun and crew, Carabiniers and what looks like a French Officer/Marshal. Best Wishes Dave
