I'd appreciate any suggestions for women and children figures in 54mm suitable for the 18th (ish) century. At the last London Toy Show I picked up a variety of pirate, etc figures for a smugglers game I'd like to do. One of the sets contained a number of figures for the American Revolution which has a female figure in it but that was all I found. She'll do for the innkeeper's daughter but I'd like another for his wife and a boyish figure for a Jim Hawkins type character. For my 42mm AGW armies I've been able to resort to O gauge model railway figures for the general's mistress (but still stuck for a cantiniere figure) but Gauge 1 (54mm) figures are very pricey and I'd still need to convert.
Any suggestions are very welcome.

Off the top of my head, Sash & Sabre has a bag of civilians in their F&IW range. Trident had some civilians in their AWI range, at least I have a couple inc one with a cow being milked but I can't seem to find them on their new home with Triguard.

Sash and Saber's 40mm FIW civilians are good. I just saw them at Historicon.
Have you looked at Irregular Miniatures? They have a 54mm line, but I don't know if they have what you are looking for in that period.
But you never know...

Dob't know why I didn't think of this yesterday. Here's a pic of a few of the S&S civilians. (The French officer is Irregular for comparison)

Many thanks for pointing me at Triguard - what a range! By the way, the cow being milked is under AWI Villagers Sash & Sabre I'm aware of but I don't think I've seen any women and children there. Irregular - a regular port of call but sadly lacking in suitable figures either in 54 or 40. It's really 54mm women and children I'm looking for at present for the smugglers game as I've started painting the figures. That's not to say that I wouldn't have been tempted by the Triguard 40mm figures had I been aware of them, even given the problems / delivery costs to the UK. I oroginally planned to do my Fenians in Canada game in 54mm but went with 42mm as I could also use some of my existing 42mm figures. A few US infantry and we could have a war on our hands!

Oops sorry, I didn't read the original post carefully enough. That is a tough quest.
There were a few pioneer women in some of the Barszo playsets but good looking finding any. Civilian model kits might be available from somewhere or plastic farm characters needing a bit of conversion but thats beyond me.
A large 40mm pioneer or other civilian might work as a 54mm Jim Hawkins?

Replicants have a barmaid and tavern keeper I believe. I sent you a PM Brian related to this too.

Hi
ROSEMINIATURES on ebay do a nice line in civilians (metal) male and female. WHITE TOWER miniatures do characters for a western style wagon train. Civilians both male and female also in metal. Both companies are very good to do business with. A special shout out to Matthew at White Tower who is incredibly helpful. Replicants also do a number of civilian type figures in plastic.

Thank you.
I hadn't realised that Rose Miniatures were still in business. I used a few of their figures for western gunfights back in the 70s. White tower are new to me. I'll look further at Replicants as I'd not seen anything listed.

While tidying up some old magazines today I saw an advert for Historex 54mm figure kits. These were a staple of military modelling in the days of my youth and it turns out they are still in business down in Dover. In the listing is a Napoleonic peasant family group of a man, women and child for £11. Should solve my problem nicely and making them should provide a bit of nostalgia. The website is a bit rubbish - you click on 'more' and you get the same small size photo and no further details and there's no easy way to sort - though that's not uncommon these days.

Finding 18th C. females is hard, but here are a few I have used: Marx's "Celia" from their Johnny Tremaine characters (she is a small 54mm) Lemax's "Christmas Village" collection has a few women that could pass for the 18th Century. Most of them, however, are closer to 60mm, though their thick bases can be removed with a saw. Safari "Toobs": Jamestown Settlers has two females who would work. One is hoeing and one is ladling from a kettle. Disney Princess figurines can fall into the right scale range. I have used a keychain version of Cinderella (unscrew the keychain and fill the hole) and Queen Miranda from a Sofia the First figure set. Zizzlingers offered three female figures in their "Pirates of the Caribbean" range: Elizabeth Swann in yellow dress, Elizabeth Swann in coat and breeches, and Tia Dalma in brown dress. However, these are extremely hard to find. Hasbro also offered a figure of Belle from "Beauty and the Beast" that is a small 54mm. She is also difficult to find. I'm happy to shoot comparison pictures of these (or you can see them at my blog www.RedcoatsandRuffles.blogspot.com) Hope this helps!

Thanks Jordan, that's a number of sources I've not been aware of. I think all the suggestions so far have highlighted that female figures, but probably civilian figures other then Victorian are, in general, hard to find. I recall that back in the 70s we had problems finding civilians for Wild West and used to remove the guns from various figures so they could go about town rather than looking like they were heading for a gunfight. Oddly, had I done this game in my usual choice of size, ie 28mm, I wouldn't have had any problem. But I quite like the challenge, it reminds me of the 70s when converting figures (I'm sure many will remember all the articles in Airfix magazine) was almost standard.

Ahh, that's the set I bought at the last Toy Show which had no branding on it! Just painting them up.
Thanks,

repeat Lemax can be a great source of civilian figures across periods - check out secondhand stuff as they frequently drop figures from their ranges. Take a look at Speira speira.net/product-category/medieval-period/ - speira.net/product-category/french-revolution/ don't be put off by dating, many are suitable multiperiod. You can choose your size too - 54mm or 60mm. Nice clean 'castings' which are easy to paint, need almost no clean up, can be with or without bases, and include some real characte
