I have made a start on the Boer War armoured train in 54mm and thought I'd document the project here: First up is the prototype of the armoured wagon with loopholes: Components are lasercut ply and 3-d printed running gear... Zulu War figures being used for scale as they were handy... You can see some fittings and wheels for the loco on the table in front of the wagon. Lots to sort out and rivet strips to add, etc.

And on to the design for the Loco - managed to get this cut today and then tweaked the wheel structure a few times until it fitted. There will eventually be a drop in part for the coal in the back behind the cab and a floor to the cab (somehow) to allow a driver to stand in the window. Again, more fiddling, grab handles and rivets to add. 10 rivet strips are printing on the 3d printer at the moment so that is the next thing to add.... A reminder that this is the model I am using for inspiration....

Looking Good! I just finished painting up a box of armies in plastic Boers. Too bad I'm on the wrong side of the Atlantic.

The loco is nearly finished now, needs a few additions but it has come together quite well. I next need to work out what will be cast in metal, etc

How is the armoured train project progressing? Will it be available by Christmas?

All the running gear has been moulded into metal - just need to make a couple of production moulds for them and then I'll be able to start producing them. The scenic base is nearly done and then I need to mould it, so still on schedule for the London Show at the start of December...

We will limited stock of our new Boer War Armoured Train sets at the London Show on December 2nd and then the sets will be available through our website. Each indivdual item (Loco or Wagon) will be £85 assembled and painted with a base. They are also available at £35 for the kit. The base is available as unpainted resin for £10 extra. The resin base shown is likely to change before release. The kits are a mix of plywood, metal and 3d printed plastic and come with comprehensive assembly instructions.
