Hi Spencer,
Love the figures, but can you tell me what BMC means and where you get the figures from? The game looked really good.
How do you find the ATKM rules? I've got them but never played them.
Thanks. Look forward to the next game report.
Best Wishes Dave

Hi Dave,
BMC was/is a line of 54mm plastic toy soldiers. They are usually marketed under the brand name of Americana these days, I think. All the figures were initially sculpted by Bill McMaster but many of the sculpts have been copies so many times they are pretty crude now (although good for a 'toy soldier' style as I think my painted ones show. You can find them pretty easy by searching eBay or Amazon for 'Yorktown playset' or 'American Revolution playset' or 'BMC American Revolution' or a combination of those terms. Five-six years ago when I was building these armies you could get the bag sets for less than $10 but now the going price looks like its $15.
ATKM is a ruleset I keep coming back over and over. They are good rules in that they just fit well with 54s. I dislike the 'general' rules only because its not always easy to find a general figure for your period of interest. I have adapted ATKM to the Sudan setting and was pleased with the result.

Hi Spencer,
Many thanks for the info. As you say, the figures give a great "toy soldier" look.
Thanks for the 2nd. Game photos. It looks really good. I notice you use the 12 figures proscribed by ATKM, but don't bother to use the 2 command figures to go with each unit. I presume this works well without them.
I have the rules and read them a long time ago, and thought that they read well, but haven't played a game using them. Nice to have your input on them and see your game in action.
What I liked about your rules was that you don't have a huge number of United, but the game looks great. Something for me to bear in mind as I used to think you had to have loads of units to do a game.
Thanks for the input.
Best Wishes Dave

The officer and ensign as described in ATkM don't actually do anything - and they don't generate dice for firing or melee so I never bothered to include them, saves me trouble of sourcing and painting two more figure per unit.
I'd say the threshold for a decent game of ATKM is 8 units per side. Six per side is okay but the game will be over pretty quickly.
