This is for the older members of the group. In the 1970s i had a super set of world war 2 rules which i used constantly in the mid / late 70s but which disappeared during a subsequent house move. The rules utilised a 4 phase / nomination system ——each phase lasting 15 seconds in real time. Can anyone remember what these great set of rules were called? And where if anywhere i might procure a set for my grandson who is a 15 year old newbie WW2 enthusiast.

Doesn't ring a bell - anything else you can remember that might jog a memory. Were they a book or an A4 (or A5) set of rules?

Ulzana,
If you Facebook, there is a group called Vintage Miniature Wargames Rules that might be able to help you. Neil Thomas has some good, simple rules appropriate for a WW2 newbie in his Wargaming An Introduction and his One - Hour Wargames books.

Thanks Mike and Captain will check out the war games rules group you mention Captain. Mike the rule book was smallish A5 i think brownish cover. Rules were phased lots of detail on rear side and front armour hits ———Tigers and IS 3S very difficult to take out —-as usual —-had quite a lot of detail on infantry vs tank action———right down to hand to hand stuff. Defenders had to show their positions in advance to the umpire on a map——labouriious but as a surveyor i did not mind drawing maps in those pre printer days the 70s and usually therefore ended up umpiring at Malvern war games club or at home. Thanks for your help chaps.

Doesn't ring a bell as a set of rules.
For some simple 1970s style set of current rules I would recommend Rapid Fire Reloaded - just £5 for the booklet, it produces a good, fairly fast game.
We are using them for our Operation Sealion demo game at Warfare in November.

Thanks for info Mike but these were defo a set o published rules in a soft A5 booklet cover which I got in 1972/73 and used widely for several years——I am trying to track them on other forums ——involved drawing a plan of the terrain to be fought over ——-ok for me to do as a Chartered building surveyor and defending forces had to show dispositions/placements on the plan and hand into the umpire as hidden from view to attackers prior to game commencement. The hunt continues.

Ulzana, I posted your query on the Facebook group. I got this reply so far.
Date and color are correct, anyway.

The Amazon review says it is a reprint from the 1970s.
I think these might be the droids you're looking for

No sadly not nick——-these weren’t that simple rules to be honest and earlier——1972/73 ish. Far more complex / detailed than this and the key was the phasing———each move 1vminute in real time broken down to phases 1 to 4 15 seconds each., much more detailed than these beginner rules but thanks so much for looking——-the hunt goes on.
