Hi
Apologies for delay in replying to this, still catching up on things after being ill over Xmas and New Year.
I have struggled to find a date in March that would work with the venue and my other commitments.
I also have the problem that Christchurch is expensive to hire (even with mates rates) and in previous years I have subsidised the event through Imperial Miniatures as the number of people who attend (as we always have a number of dropouts each year) doesn't quite cover the cost.
I am not really in the position to subsidise the venue now.
I had thought that I might skip a year this year as there is a lot going on, however, perhaps we could organise something in the middle of the year instead? What months would suit people?
IF we got the usual 6-8 people I thought of perhaps arranging something at my house as we have room for 3 tables here or we could play a garden game if the weather was okay.

I’d love to attend this year. I can bring a fantasy skirmish/dungeon crawl game.

Mike , hope you are beginning to feel a bit better. I did not mean to add to your burden , I’m just enthusiastic. Personally speaking I like the Christchurch venue on many levels and would like to continue there. I , for one, would be more than happy to pay more to help towards the event. I did not know you were out of pocket . How much is it to hire? I enjoy the Woking Weekend immensely and do hope we can continue, it is woven into my hobby calendar and that of others I suspect.

I appreciate that organising the Woking day takes a lot of time when you already have a business to run but, like Alan, I did not realise that you were subsidising the event / out of pocket esp.with unavoidable drop outs .
Like Alan Tradgardmastre says, I would be happy to attend this event at another time of year and also to pay more towards the event / venue as required.
I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for all you do for the Woking event Mike. Like everyone, I too love the Woking event, but understand the reasons behind your thoughts about having a year off Like Alan, I would be prepared to pay more and a event at a different time of year would be OK (just hope I can make it)
However, I would understand if you decided you needed a year off. We do, of course, have the possibility of the Northern Littkewars event run by Antony Spencer, so we would have that event if you decided to take a year off.
I think we would all support you, whatever you decide, so have a think and let us know. Thanks Mike

Hi Mike,
talking about money, aren't all of us overdue to contribute again towards this forum's running costs?

Hi,
Mike - I'm sorry to learn that you've subsidised the event previously, that's incredibly generous but really the costs should be shared by the attendees. It's a hugely enjoyable event and I'd certainly be happy with contributing more.
Sadly, if there's anything in March I'm unlikley to be able to attend as waiting for spinal surgery and I'm pretty much immobile in the meantime.
If it would be any help I could do some research on the internet for possible alternative venues.
Happy to contribute to the forum costs as well.
Brian

Many thank for the comments. The subsidising of the games day wasn't a huge amount of money and counted as a promotional business expense when I was running Imperial Miniatures so I was always happy to do it.
I don't think I will be able to arrange anything for March, and need to have a think about other dates or whether to take a year off (obviously I would delighted if someone else wanted to organise a day someh=where like the midlands...).
The last appeal for funding for help with the storage costs for photos for the forum produced a lot of very generous contributions. I need to check how close we are to needing any more help with the funding.
I'll let people know.
thanks
Mike

Thanks for your message Mike. It looks like you could really do with a year off. A shame for those of us who have experienced and enjoyed Woking, but therz is always next year.
Regarding a show in the Midlands, we have the Northern show in Poynton Antong Spencer has put on in November.
I wonder if Antony could reply to this post and let us know his thoughts about the possibilities of a show this year and when it might be. I went to the 1 day show he organised last November and it was great.
Best Wishes Dave

Hi all,
Just picked up on this thread and in particular Dave's query about what I am thinking about organising this year.
Would I like to arrange something this year for us to all gather and play with with our toy soldiers, then the answer is yes. That being said, like Mike, Imperial Miniatures has subsidised the last two events that I have organised and they have been treated as marketing events to keep the accountants happy.
The issue for me is getting a good number of attendees. The events in the north have been blighted by train strikes which along with other unavoidable drop outs has a financial consequence as you cannot ask those that do attend to pay more. That is a risk with any event and I am happy to cover that to a degree through Imperial Miniatures (I can get the other director's to sign off as well).
So, I suppose my question to the forum is this. If I look to arrange a weekend gathering in the north potentially in early July, beyond the usual suspects, who would be willing to come?
The reason I am thinking of July is that my fellow director (my wife) are planning sell our house and look to move even further north.
All the best,
Antony

Thanks for replying Antony. The games at the Northern games es day are really great so a games day would be great. Are you thinking of 1 day or 2? Early July sounds good -- I'm free both days the 1st weekend -- 6th and 7th -- if that's any good? Thanks Antony Dave
