ok so I am trying to settle down into finishing some units up rather than my current scatter gun approach to figure conversion etc As I've said earlier in this thread I really like the West End Games Imperial army troops idea. Stormtroopers are the shock troops, get the best gear do the hardest work; the imperial army does everything else with whatever they can get here hands on So here's my first almost complete unit. I'm planning on making another one (eventually) with a greater emphasis on mixing and matching gear Scale wise they work well with my collection: and they're airfix figures so what's not to love right? These are looking good. I think a demolition team with the same uniform and backpacks would look good as your second unit. The Helmet size looks about right. Are you going top take the Thompson off the grenade throwing pose or change it into another weapon ?
On your cut down VEERs try an AIRFIX Commando head for size, it will give the figure a different proportion and it shouldn't be a problem to sculpt a cap onto it. The feet are looking better as far as size goes.

Ships as objective markers are a good idea at this scale methinks. I've got a busted hasbro Xwing which is very close to scale and will make a good crashed ship objective marker. Anyone know a in-scale landspeeder available on the market? I'm tempted to pick those Revell kits ups; the bikes have sound effects which could be fun and the boy would enjoy building them up. On the other hand I am trying to finish something before I get started on something else! If the figures are too big I'd have to chop them down a bit I am trying to veer away from the larger end of the figure range No time to put anything on a gaming table right now sigh

Revell made a 1/24 scale Luke's landspeeder, and the landspeeder from Solo that is meant to match the bikes I posted (1/29 scale). I have both, can post pics later.

I'm just loving this lively conversation. Things tend to be a tad sleepy in these here parts...
My daughters and I just had a Star Wars game in 54mm last weekend. I'm happy to say the Rebels were successful in foiling both the Empire and a gang of Jabba's hitmen - great fun and much laughter were in evidence.
Congratulations on ten pages! Let's keep that number climbing...

The T-34 is always bigger in my head-canon than it is on screen in a new hope. It just feels too small to be comfortable. I like it being the same size as Han's speeder, and it makes them look nice together in a cantina parking lot.

nice thanks again Ninja yes agreed the speeder always looks painfully small at correct scale. Looks like the han speeder scales well with that leia chess piece sigh ok they're on the shopping list too!

Hehe yeah, if I had another Leia I would reshape her to fit the passengers seat. Otherwise, I'll look for an Emilia Clarke stand-in.
On the subject of Han Solo's ladies, I have a particularly large bird of prey arriving in the mail soon. Will post pics when I get it.

I'm looking for another cheap chess set for conversions so if I get one I'll send you the leia. I'd like to build up an alien rebel force or something beyond the standard rebel types. Local insurgents something like that. So my thinking is converting the first order figures in the chess set might be a easy way to achieve this (too many projects )

Alien rebels are a good idea. The best plan I can consider for those is to cast heads and hands from the Deagostini and Unleashed figures. I have been using Oyumaru ("Blue Stuff" from Green Stuff Workshop) to make molds of the Deagostini figures and have been filling them with regular modeling putty. They don't copy very well unfortunately as I will either get an improperly aligned cast or missing details in the piece.
The best sources for generic alien heads and faces seem to be Deagostini's Ackbar (for Mon Calamari), Greedo (for Rodians), Bossk (for Trandoshans), and Gamorean Guards.

There's a bunch of gaps to be filled like a sullustan, ithorian etc etc. Have you thought about using builders fill? It's called bondo in the US I think you can get some fairly thin fill that could be squashed into a mould and it sets up pretty fast.

Is it lighter or thicker than modeling putty? One option for particularly ugly bastards is this set of figures from the 80s. Marty Warriors of the Galaxy. Not too similar to any species, but they fit well with a hoard of Jabba's boys. One last option is to use these UFO-style aliens to make a Duros soldier.

Any idea on heads for Bothans? I was thinking of taking the child figure from the Star Wars Command line (I think he's from the Rebels show?) and using his body, since Bothans are smaller/slighter than humans, but wasn't sure a good 54mmish scale head that would work well.
