Is it lighter or thicker than modeling putty? One option for particularly ugly bastards is this set of figures from the 80s. Marty Warriors of the Galaxy. Not too similar to any species, but they fit well with a hoard of Jabba's boys. One last option is to use these UFO-style aliens to make a Duros soldier. that's a really good idea with those 80's fantasy figures wouldn't take much to make them Star Warsy. Let me know how you get on I am over my head with projects now You can buy filler that's thinner than modelling putty, not quite pourable but easy enough to spatula into a mould and put a bit of pressure on it. I might have some around I'll give it go sometime Another good suggestion about those Duro's yeah great fit I reckon

Any idea on heads for Bothans? I was thinking of taking the child figure from the Star Wars Command line (I think he's from the Rebels show?) and using his body, since Bothans are smaller/slighter than humans, but wasn't sure a good 54mmish scale head that would work well. I think what ninja said 3d print or a sculpt. If you could find a camel head you could make a yak face I guess. What the hell is a bothan? Sort of dog/ camel creature? I'm working on a solution for the lack of ithorians, no pics yet to embarrassed to show you guys my sculpting

Alien rebels are a good idea. The best plan I can consider for those is to cast heads and hands from the Deagostini and Unleashed figures. I have been using Oyumaru ("Blue Stuff" from Green Stuff Workshop) to make molds of the Deagostini figures and have been filling them with regular modeling putty. They don't copy very well unfortunately as I will either get an improperly aligned cast or missing details in the piece. The best sources for generic alien heads and faces seem to be Deagostini's Ackbar (for Mon Calamari), Greedo (for Rodians), Bossk (for Trandoshans), and Gamorean Guards. Ninja, I use BLUE STUFF too. I have had problems aligning parts but find that the technique of making indents in the first part of the mould using the end of a paint brush , at the four corners, helps with alignment of the second half of the mould. The main problem is the fact that BLUE STUFF is still flexible when set so a little too much pressure squashes the item you are trying to make and too little means that all the mould doesn't fill, it comes down to trial and error. Have you tried GREEN STUFF or BROWN STUFF as your filler, to make the end product. Both work and have different consistencies as a filler but do have the issue of drying time being longish, however too little put in the mould is not wasted as you can add more and place it back in the mould, too much means you will waste a little as flash. I don't think that for the little number of heads you would want that the waste putty would cost too much.
For other ALIEN types you could check out some of the TECNOLOG sets - MINOTOURS ,WEREWOLVES, ORCS, CENTUARS. Getting the soft plastic versions means that removing a head or mix and matches parts is easier. In fact one of the illustrations of half BOTHANS show them with Minotaur legs.

hmmm I do like them very EU star wars. Dog/ camel head Might have to try a sculpt or convert a tehnolog figure Hey Les I got the wrong side of the war graphic novel. Like you say some great reference material there gave me an idea for a rebel scout unit (all wearing poncho's) and also of course more imperial army

Good help. My best experiences so far have been with yellow Milliput for molding and Green Stuff for sculpting. I like the tehnolog figures: too much to want to cut them up! You are right that the Minotaur could look like a good Bothan.
Another good option that comes to mind comes from a set of monster figures based on the MGM public domain movies (dracula, frankerstein, mummy, swamp thing...). There is a werewolf that could be a Bothan, and I've already used up the Godzillas to make Trandoshans.

A lot of great ideas here for bothans! (And Les, thank you for linking to the *correct* EU version of Wookiepedia).
I like the werewolf idea from the monster figures, though that may be a better fit for a Shistavanen Wolfman (https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Shistavanen/Legends).

ok here's my first real attempt to sculpt something in 54mm (my power droid doesn't count really). I used sculpey and apoxie sculpt over a wire armiture. The sculpt is a rolling comedy of errors to be honest but I learnt a bit about the materials and some techniques. I need ALOT more practice but overall I managed to make a complete figure and it's not too out of place:) I added a grip to its right hand for a blaster or staff or whatever. I may mould this guy so I can make a few more for conversion Comments and critique most welcome. My next sculpt will be a rebel commando helmet (back on target). I'd like to keep making SW aliens that cannot be bought to create a few more options
