I ran a Boxer Rebellion game in 54mm at my local club yesterday using the classic Sword and the Flame rules. I can't vouch for the authenticity of the architecture. I relied heavily on aquarium scenery for the Asian look. The Legations were defended by Russians, French, Royal Marine Light Infantry, Austrians and US Marines. There was a unit of Marines on the Tartar Wall as well. The Boxers arrived in stages so they could not simply steamroll over the defenses. The Europeans were able to hold off the Boxer attacks, but had mounting sniper casualties. The game ended when the final all out Boxer assault was stopped at the barricades.

Fantastic looking game! Are those conversions of Imperial army troops based on the AIP Indian army figures?

Thanks! The Imperial Regulars are AIP Egyptian bodies with turbaned heads from the Boxers.

Superb in every way - table, figures, paint jobs...Honestly it's looking over games like this that makes it hard to go back to smaller scales - there's just something special about the "big boys." Thanks so much for sharing!

I have always felt colonials and 54mm were the perfect match. Your game just proves that. Looks like loads of fun.

Love the presentation the big boys make. It really brings an epic level look to the games. Done up well and right that I love everything about it.

ditto - my favourite period. Love the packed streets, narrow alleys look. We started a Boxer Uprising campaign in 2000 to celebrate the 100th anniversary and ran it over a few years - indeed it still isn't finished! We did it ass-about-face, starting with the siege of the Legations, and then back to the beginning of the relief expeditions 1 and 2. We've yet do Taku Forts, and the fighting for and around Tientsin, the final relief, and some punitive expeditions...
We have forces from all the the Eight Powers, and Boxers and Imperials. I think most of the photos might be pre-digital but will see if I can find some.
Great to see such a splendid game for this great period. Where else can you field US, British, German, Austro-Hungarian, Russian, Japanese, French, and Italians fighting together in the last few years before khaki eclipsed all colourful uniforms!

A sneaky update if I may - my book on the Boxer Uprising is out at last, well two of the 3 volumes anyway - published by Partizan Press they are Vol 1 The Dragon Provoked and Vol 2 The Dragon Aroused, Armed Forces of the Boxer Uprising and Eight Powers' War China 1889-1902. Volume 3 The Dragon Subdued will follow later this year.
Mike - delete if you think inappropriate.
