I acquired Andy Duff's Napoleonics collection a year after he died and I have been slowly rebasing it and sorting out the figures. I've extracted the Austrians painted as British, French and Prussians with the intention of repainting them as Austrians at some point! The following figures I am not sure what they are meant to be: I think they are designed as part of the French forces (?) - they are Austrians with a modified helmet... Anyone got any ideas?

Belgians perhaps??? I always teased Andy for using any old figure and just painting it to fit in with what he wanted and he vowed to replace them some day... Lovely chap, sadly missed.

I sadly never met him in person but did correspond about the first Woking Games Day.... I am wondering now if they are supposed to be Wurtembergers? Mike

He was a pleasure to game with, and so smooth he would have made a great Snake Oil saleman - he was in PR!
Did you mean the original figures or what they were being used for? If the former I think you are right.

No, I think they were Austrians originally (1798 ones) but I am not sure what they have been painted to represent - there are 34 of them so a fairly big force but I can't, at the moment, work out what Andy was using them for at Waterloo. I have the "interesting" other 1809 austrians in helmet painted to be dismounted French Dragoons...

These would be Baden infantry. Sometimes a French ally, sometimes Allied. Depends on the year and the wars are going. The Wurtemburg troops were similar but slightly different helmet.

Thanks Ross - I think you might be right - with the red on the comb - though the illustration I have seen shows it at the bottom of the comb not the top! Also Baden didn't actually fight at Waterloo as far as I can see...!
Still, it should mean I don't need to repaint them but can add them into the forces as 2 units of Baden Infantry and some skirmishers...
thanks
Mike

The figure on the left came from the Hat Bavarian Marching Set. The one on the right came from the Hat Wurttemberg Action Set.
