Hi. I just thought that an area for relating ideas that have inspired us to wargame a particular incident/period might be of interest, and perhaps raise things we might never have considered, heard of or thought of before.
I'm in the process of reading a book by William Le Queux called " The Invasion of 1910". It's about a German invasion of this country. I'd already read his other invasion book - an invasion set in 1897 - and I suddenly thought what an interesting subject to wargame. So I thought I'd pass it on incase you hadn't heard of his books before.
I think Spencer Smith do some suitable figures in their Shiny Toy Soldier range ( but that's 42mm scale) and I've a feeling our very own Mike's figures may have some that could be used.
Any other figure suggestions from anyone?
Best Wishes Dave

Well... no figure suggestions but I have been reading 'Ottoman Endgame' by Sean McMeekin which has got me thinking that there are some interesting possibilities for gaming in the early British campaigns in Mesopotamia, 1915. Fairly small actions and I think 'Portable Wargames' or something along those lines would work well.

I haven't read those books - though I seem to remember that the character in one of them is the inspiration for Fleming's creation of James Bond. I have read the Dorking Invasion book and keep meaning to read P G Wodehouse en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Swoop! in which England is invaded by 9 countries! Mike

Those are classics, but my favourite invasion scare novel is The Riddle of the Sands by Erskine Childers.... absolutely brilliant book, funny and eminently readable. I've been toying with doing this in either 54 or 40mm, the latter perhaps is gaining ground because of the Irregular and STS ranges, as well as plenty of civilian figures available from Fourty-Third and AC Stadden. In 54mm the cost of metal civilians is putting me off (£10 each as a pose to £2.50 for 40mm).
In 54mm, I would use Britains for the Brits (!) or Prince August home casts and AIP for the pesky Prussians. True Little Wars stuff.
