I would like to add some Afghan regulars to my collection of Afghan tribesmen. I am thinking of using Britains Deetail ACW figures and sculpting the "beehive" cap out of green stuff. Any other suggestions welcome.

I think a colonial British infantryman would give a more correct looking uniform. Maybe something from AiP?

Thanks,79th PA. It's the loose trousers without anklets that made me think of ACW Deetail figures. The bottom half of the AIP Zulu War British in shirtsleeves would work, including the waist pouches, but not above the waist. I need around 20 of them, so I'd like to avoid an extensive conversion effort.

What if you took AIP Russian Civil War infantry and ground down the hat? They are bearded as is and the cartridge belt looks to do the trick. Grind down the blanket into a sash? If you didn't want the trousers tucked into boots you could simply paint over the bit and it wouldn't really show...or just go a bit heavier with the gesso where the boots and trousers meet. If you use ACW and you want to be more accurate then you need to add the two front ammo pouches either from putty or cut from a piece of plastic strip. You would also have to cut off the existing ammo pouches. As mentioned, by someone else, British guard figures would also work with the change then concentrated on the head. For the 'Highlander' Afghans you could use colonial highlanders and build up trousers under the kilt or use colonial Brits with kilts added over trousers, made from tissue soaked in PVA or putty. For the non highlander Afghans you could also use Brit colonials and just cover the gaiters with putty and cut down and built up the hats with putty, In fact I think that would be easier than some other approaches. A suggestion made about 'grinding down' blanket rolls on Russian AIP I'd be a bit wary of unless combined with then cutting. In fact I'd use only the cutting with sharp knife. The AIP Cossack hats are a little like the Afghan ones but it would be easier just to build up the hats with putty.
