I am collecting 54mm figures for the 1860s New Zealand colonial wars. There are no easy conversion possibilities for the Maori (I'm open to suggestions) so I have been slowly accumulating the metal figures from Regal Enterprises. I have been converting ACW Union plastics wearing the bedroll or rolled greatcoat by giving them a greenstuff porkpie forage cap. I have run out of the figures I have culled from my ACW collection. Can anyone recommend which plastic sets have the most figures with bedrolls? I know I could add them myself with greenstuff, but I feel that my sculpting skills are pretty much maxed out with the forage caps. I've included an image of a British infantryman in New Zealand, if that helps you recognize an appropriate line of ACW figures.
Thanks, Nick Stern

The Armies in Plastic Confederate infantry have some, but they are all wearing a slouch hat.

79thpa, Thanks. I have checked out AIP. Converting hats isn't a problem, but the Confederates with the bedroll are all wearing shell jackets and I am looking for tunics. The Union figures listed as Marines and Sharpshooters are wearing long flock coats and I'd like to avoid having to trim them. Accurate and Imex each have one perfect figure per 10 figure pack. I may have to beak down and learn how to sculpt bedrolls.

IIRC the old BMC/now Americana Confederates had some poses with bedrolls (see the guy advancing on the left middle, and marching lower left):
And the CTA colored Union infantry also seem to have some:

Irregular miniatures do a 54mm Maori Wars range in metal. There are not a lot of figures, but the also do an Indian Mutiny range, with figures that would be suitable for the Maori wars.

Instead of putty, maybe you could try putting watered-down white glue on tissue paper and rolling that up into bedrolls? Just thinking out loud.

The blanket rolls (and indeed berets) on these SCW Carlists were made from Miliput. Very easy.

I've recently tried modifying figures using Green Stuff epoxy (where you mix the blue and yellow strips) and I can't say I found it easy. Probably worth practising on some unwanted figures. So I'm going back to a material I used in the 1970s to convert wild west figures - plasticene. It may sound a bit odd know but anyone who read Airfix magazine back then will have seen it used a lot. You were advised to seal it with 'banana oil' which I never found and used varnish instead. Despite quite a bit of handling the figures and 40 years untouched in a box they are still intact.
As it happens I want to add some blanket rolls to some 42mm figures and I'm likely to try rolling it out then shaping around the figure. I'm thinking of button thread to tie round the ends. I'll let you know how it works out but an obvious advantage is that it it doesn't work out well I cen remove and start again.

If you are okay with making bedrolls, then the AIP Egyptians might be the thing for you.
Or even if you want to leave the bedrolls off....

They are nicely done. You may have to remove an arm or cut the roll in two to get it on the figure.

Pleasure Nick - always glad to help/hinder! Yes, would like to see them in action please. As you will have seen there are a load of 54mm accessories by Historex to add flavour and interest to figures. I like to string a chicken or a rabbit onto a foragers saddle for example
