AIP has brought all of its molds back from China and any future figures will be made in the US. Fingers crossed this results in some new sets!

That's good news Spencer. I have some of their Sudan range and think they're great. As you say, maybe some new sculpts to look forward to. Do you think the price will go up as a result?
Best Wishes Dave

I had heard the rumor that the owners had decided enough was enough and wouldn't be producing new sets, just selling remaining inventory, hence the large discounts. Of course, that was a Facebook rumor. I actually was wondering what they would do with their tooling. Next paycheck I plan on placing a large order of Dervishes.

Sounds good to me. So from what you've said ripasha, they may be quite reasonably priced? I presume you're across the pond? If so, postage will be fairly good for you. Think I'll try Steve Weston in this country (England) and see what he can do.
Thanks for the info.
Best Wishes Dave

Based on the ongoing clearance sales that seemed to be designed to clear out stock that have been ongoing for the last year or so, my thinking was also that AIP was probably moving towards closing down. Retrospectively, those sales look more like a move to generate cash to buy back the tooling. A year or two ago I had read a rumor that more early-war WWI troops/sets were in the make (French in kepis, which I want more than anything really, and early war British in caps and not helmets) but instead the rotating clearance sales kicked off.

Really excited to see what this brings, as I, too, was afraid they were selling off everything prior to shutting down (though I have enjoyed buying a bunch of stuff at sale prices).

AIP produced most of their ranges in several different coloured plastics to represent different armies or units from the same period, as this appeals to the American collectors market where most people don't paint their figures. Invariably some colours don't sell as well as others and I heard that it is mostly these unpopular colours that are being sold off cheap in order to clear stocks from the warehouse. Hence they are selling $1 mixed bags with figures of their choice from discontinued colours.
Way back when AIP issued their first set of WW1 US infantry, Tony, the owner brought a load of master figures to the London Show which included seperate heads to make variations of existing lines, one of the heads was WW1 British early war flat cap, they've never been made yet but always been in the pipeline. Tony is an irrepressible character so I'm sure we'll see new sets from him when he's cleared some of the backlog. So buy stuff now while it's cheap!

Judging from the sale price, it looks like AIP has a large surplus of Egyptian and Naval Brigade camel corps. It may be a nice idea to have a regular Funny Little Wars painting/converting contest. Starting first with a camel mounted unit.

AIP does not appear to do UK shipping (probably because Steve Weston is official UK agent?).

Yup, was going to say I've been ordering direct from their website (probably ordered $250 worth of toys in the last couple months).

Hello! I had to call AIP back in August regarding an order. I was speaking with Tony's wife and I mentioned my concern that AIP would no longer be producing sets. She handed me over to Tony and I spoke with him for a couple of minutes. He told me not to believe rumors and that he would be continuing AIP. According to him the sales were a reflection of the economy and he wanted to offer sets at a cheaper price until things picked up. So I was reassured as I really like the AIP sets.

That's very good news if true. AIP has been one of the standard bearers in the industry for years running now. It would be really sad to lose them.
