I'm starting on a new collection, the wars of Simon Bolivar and San Martin. It's like Napoleonic Lite, with palm trees. I am hoping to leverage a lot of my 54mm Napoleonic and Alamo figures, but I will need to convert some mounted figures into Gauchos. This guy, on the Facebook Liberators - South American Independence Wargaming Group is my inspiration.
Anyone else doing this period in 54mm?

That's got to be Tom Milmore. He's been converting BMC figures and others) for various South American Wars since I met him in the late 90's. He does some fantastic conversions as well as buildings etc

Ross,
Yes, that's the guy! It's amazing the variety he gets out of those inexpensive figures.

It is a fascinating time period, but I haven't jumped into it.

Most Armies in Plastic will work well in the vast majority of Latin American wars. The armies of Latin America have always emulated Europe (with varying success) and have brought European advisors. For example, in their Wars of Independence, you can use Napoleonic Spanish or plain Napoleonic. In their late 19th-century wars, you can combine the French Foreign Legion, the American Civil War, and Germans with Pickelhaube.
