Brilliant Mike. What make are the troops used? Some nicely painted cavalry. Those of us with no garden can only look on with some regret-although nongardening chores to be done and more time for painting!!!!

Army Red is a mix of AIP colonials (Anthony's troops but painted by me) and my own Little Wars revisited Riflemen and Guards.
Army Dark Green was Brian's and is, I believe, mostly BMC figures with Dorset heads added.... The Cavalry is a mix of Britains and AIP Prussians (painted by me)

Dave,
The only one of my NWF British figures not from AIP is my General who is a glossy metal from Little Legion's Sudan range. You may be interested to know that I based all my Brits as per the colonial section of Dirk's About Napoleon rules. I've used the same basing system for my Little Legion Zulu War collection.
Cheers Anthony

Brian had two auxiliary/foreign units there which is to say two that he bought from me some time ago, both originally done based on the Egyptian/Turkish troops that the British fought in Egypt in 1809 but which served in the armies of the Emir of Wadi Foulyam nearly 20 yars ago. The Red unit was converted from Hat Zouaves, the Albanian unit in white with coloured vests were a mix of ACW Zouaves and converted Highlanders. A mix of home cast metal figures from moulds sold by Miniature Molds in the States inc what look to me like copies of Authenticast Highlanders and an Imrie Risly Zouave with a few other plastic Zouaves inc Hat and Italeri. Delightful to see them in action amidst such splendid company in such a grand affair on such a fine afternoon. -Ross gameofmonth.blogspot.ca/

I was wondering who those fine fellows in red and white were. They would make fine Bashi-Bazouks for my Egyptian army.

The auxiliary/foreign units in red and white have been pressed into service on both the Russian and Turkish sides whenever I need to beef up the numbers for a game. I'm not sure how to post pics here but you can see more of them on my blog: toysoldiercollecting.blogspot.co.uk/

Hi Anthony,
Glad You're liking Dirk's rules. I've been changing the base sizes to fit the fibures I'm using. Out of interest, as you're using the Colonial supplement part of his Napoleonic rules, are you doing what he suggests (Brits 6 figures and Mahdists up to 10 figures), or are you using the standard 8 figures per unit? Also, what size are your cavalry and camel corps units?
Best Wishes Dave

Hi Dave,
Sorry for the delay in replying but I just got back from 8 days in Malta last night! Dirk suggests four figure units for British colonial units which is what I use, all figures being on individual stands. I keep cavalry units four figures strong also, and Zulu units are six stands (twelve figures) strong.
Best wishes Anthony

Thanks Anthony. Always good to know. I've painted just a few figures (4 to be precise), ready to start a Sudan campaign, but with other painting priorities (and Expeditionary Force keep releasing such fantastic figures) it'll probably have to wait til I retire next year.
I've started to paint them in khaki and blue-grey, but have to admit that I may go for scarlet jackets (and that lovely Post Office unit in blue) as that somehow feels right. I know it won't be quite accurate if I match them against the Fuzzy-aussies, but who cares. I Don't!!!!! Best Wishes Dave
