Come the third week in May, once again the Maine Historical Wargames Association is holding its 3-day Huzzah! convention in South Portland. This is the first time I've participated since the pandemic and I am looking forward to it. I will also be putting on a 54mm Napoleonic Game using Dirk Donvil's About Bonaparte rules set in Spain. While my ongoing Spanish campaign continues apace as reported in some of my Der Resin Kavalier blog, I of course decided to paint up more figures. I also wanted to try a new way to prep the molded plastic figures to resist flaking and provide a good base for paint.
To that end, I began prepping some HaT French Light Voltigeurs. After cleaning them off is soapy water and a good scrub with an old toothbrush, I coated the figures with Scenic Cement, which seems to be a highly dilute matte medium. After they dried in a dead flat finish, I gave them a coat f Vallejo's white primer. I must say that so far the results have been beyond expectations. While this is by no means an earth shattering discovery, I thought I would pass it on.

Huzzah! Indeed. I'm also going to be there again for the first time since Covid. I've entered 2 40mm French Rev games and offered to repeat if they're short of games but I doubt that will be the case. I wonder if one of us can pull some strings so our games don't overlap time slot wise! Ross

I am sure we can probably be accommodated! My game time (at least my requested game time) was 1000 Saturday. We shall see...
I look forward to seeing you again!

Thank you for the helpful painting tip and the reminder of your excellent blog. I own a copy of the About Bonaparte rules as well as the special dice. I played one game with the rules and felt that the eight figure units looked a bit sparse on the table, but your game photos look great to me. I think I will try out a War of 1812 or a South America Wars of Liberation scenario next with the rules.

As a set of rules they work remarkably well. The "command and colors" dice were hard to come by, although I managed a couple of sets. The easiest way to get them is to buy a bag of blank dice (online), and just mark them appropriately with various colored permanent markers.
