It took a while for me to appreciate how appropriate the title The Shape Of Things To Come is for this section, It combines H.G. Wells’ sci fi Book title (and stylish prescient 1930s film) with his pioneering and under appreciated books Floor Games and Little Wars (add in E Nesbits magic cities book for instant found exotic scenery). Wells as Grandfather of modern wargaming was the inspirer of Donald Featherstone's War Games and its often overlooked Close Wars two page appendix rules From which I shamelessly derived my Close Little Space Wars rules and Back Yarden Galaxy games - if only Wells had had Space figures to play with (quick let’s send him some metal ones via his time machine) manoftinblog.wordpress.com/2016/09/25/close-little-space-wars/

www.wargaming.co/recreation/details/dfskirmish.htmNot forgetting the little known Featherstone space skirmish scenarios In John Curry’s reprint of Skirmish Wargaming with a fantasy and a space sci fi scenario (written up in the style of / from notes by Featherstone?) Much could be written of the “Space / Cowboy” Wild West Pioneer crossover for Terrain and scenarios and characters. Kurosawa’s film work in Japan such as the Seven Samurai inspired both the design and story of Star Wars and also the Magnificent Seven western movie. I’m sure we’ll end up short of useful civilians (a problem noted by Wells in Floor Games and Little Wars) and convert the versatile Steve Weston Mexican Civilians from his Magnificent Seven Range into Space Civilians.
