This set gets a lot of flak, but unfairly. I'll tell you why. BMC figures are economical. However they vary greatly in quality yet there are enough good figures to justify their purchase. With the play sets the scenic accessories and guns alone are enough reason to buy them. In this case i notice it says they are 60mm. If the figures are the same as ones I have they are generally 54mm.
Looking at the rank and file first, the blue figures are Mexican infantry but can also serve as Napoleonic or South American troops with Bell top shakoes. They have poses for ranking up in volley firing or advancing. They are quite good figures with all the equipment. The rank and file Texans are not so good, in fact a bit crude. However, I like the kneeling firing with short musket and powder horn and I use it to go with my Timpo Action pack Confederates for a kneeling rank. However, given the short length of the musket he would make a good dismounted cavalry figure. The figure in top hat and with knife has a rather large head, something the revolutionary set is plagued with, although, even there they have a certain charm.
The best figures are the character figures. Among the Texans are Bowie with knife, Travis and Crocket swinging his musket as a club. With teh Mexicans is a nice figure of Santa Anna in bicorne.

Clive, They hold paint very well if you use the usual detergent and primer prep. Here's photo of some of mine from a recent Alamo game. As you can see, they match well to other manufacturers' miniatures. Nick Stern

I use these BMC figures extensively in my armies, they are easy to convert and paint, very versatile. In your first link the figures appear to be the Alamo Mexicans and defenders but in the second link the bag contains the Alamo defenders with Mexicans from the San Juan Hill set. The original figures were made in reasonable quality plastic but recent production is more brittle and has some flash, even so they are still great value. They will mix well with Marx, Airfix and Call to Arms figures.
