We played the Waterloo scenario from the Napoleonic Commands and Colors basic game set. It was a fun game with Hougoumont taken by the French and then retaken by the British Guards. Like the actual battle it was a "Near Run Thing". As I was setting up the game, I thought that the figures were looking a bit thin on the ground for such a major battle, but when I had all the figures set out I was pleased with the over all look. And there is no way I could have played Waterloo in 54mm on my standard 5X8 foot game table with any other rules. Well, maybe with Neil Thomas's rules, which I have yet to try.

Or maybe Volley & Bayonet (Frank Chadwick used to like using 4x54's on 3" bases) but who cares?
The game looks great and sounds like a fun game. What more could one ask?

Zuludon,
You put me to shame! I've been wanting to do Waterloo in 54mm using CC:N for ages but hadn't got round to it yet. Looks great!
Best wishes Anthony

Brilliant. Looks great. Now I'm getting my 12'x6' gridded mat from Deep-Cut studios, I'll have to try a C&C game. Then that'll be 4 rule sets I can use on the same table!!!!
Best Wishes Dave

Thanks, All, for the kind words. I am still trying to figure out how to represent the walled farms in 54mm. I used cobblestone hexes, but I think they are lacking, visually. A friend suggested I glue Monopoly buildings around the edge of the hex so that my three inch square infantry stands fit inside. At first I thought that would be too much of an abstraction. Then I was reminded that I am using a four figure stand to represent 800 men, so I think I will give it a try.

I use the 'Britains' (I think actually made by Ertl) Napoleonic buildings which are 'representative' (i.e. on the small side and don't have all four walls) - I tried to post an image of them here but the computer said no! If you look on the Matakishi Tea House website under 'Waterloo', you'll see some images of my set-up (all the badly painted figures are my doing, the lovely ones came courtesy of the very helpful Mike Blake who finally despaired of my approach to painting!) Kind regards Andy

Thank you, Andy. Very clever bath tubbing of the Waterloo farms! Unfortunately, my farms have to fit into one five inch hexagon each. I have a nice 54mm Hougmount that I used to game that part of the battle on the 200th anniversary, but even the smallest of those farm buildings is too large. I could go for a larger mat, but I think I'll settle for the Lilliputian versions of the buildings. BTW, I am a big fan of your blog and owner of your Horns of the Buffalo rules, which I plan to try in 54mm. Attachments:

Hi again - sorry, I should point out that I am not Matakishi! He's a far, far better painter that I'll ever be - he turned up at 'Warfare' a few years back and saw me demonstrating the Waterloo set up, added photos to his site and asked me for a write-up (I've known him for years, he taught my kids to paint when he still had the shop in Woking - lovely bloke). Kind regards Andy
