The great thing about Afghan warriors is that you can use them for all of Queen Victoria's reign up until almost the present day. One action that has long fascinated me is the Last Stand of 44th Foot at Gundermuck, 1842, even since seeing the painting by William Barns Wollen on the book cover of The Fierce Pawns. I have loads of Afghans, mostly AIP, but some lovely Conte resins as well, I just need the British in their winter kit. I had bought a dozen Crimean War Guards in greatcoats from Dorset Model Soldiers a while ago and decided to do some head swaps. Dorset make the appropriate bell topped shakos, as do Irregular Miniatures, but being the impatient person I am, I explored my piles of unpainted plastics and came up with the Classic Toy Soldiers Alamo Mexicans. This quick sample shows me that the two fit together quite nicely. Next up is a paint test. I have my sites set on a skirmish game with around 24 British, including some Regal Enterprises British in shell jackets and forage caps from their 1840s Maori Wars collection and a Bengal Horse Artillery crew from my Indian Mutiny collection. I will keep you posted on my progress.

79thpa,
Relegated to the back burner for now, I'm afraid. All I need to do is finish the last 10 head swaps and paint them. The Afghan warriors and other British miniatures are ready to go.
Thanks for the encouragement and motivation.
