I finally bought myself a 54mm castle, a Barzso/LOD recast of Nottingham Castle. I bought just the walls, gatehouse, and a breached wall section. I plan to use the castle for Medieval, as well as Napoleonic, Peninsular War sieges. I am wondering what rules to use. I am thinking that figures should best be based individually, in units of no more than ten or twelve. I want rules that will recreate the drama and individual heroism of the Forlorn Hope so I don't think that rules like The Men Who Would Be King are quite right, not without a lot of additional rules. On the other hand, I want something that plays faster than a one man one figure skirmish. I recall that Howard Whitehouse wrote a set of rules for sieges in the Peninsula in the old Courier Magazine and I've got them filed somewhere. I am hoping some of you out there have a preferred set of rules you would like to share.
Thanks in advance, Nick Stern

Nick,
I've never played them but there are a set of simple siege rules at the back of the Medieval Tactica rulebook. They read well and look painless and elegant compared to some.
Cheers Anthony

Hi Nick, I've done medieval siege games in 28mm, I wrote some simple siege rules which I used with the Neil Thomas Ancient and Medieval rules. I can probably dig them out if you are interested. Here is a link to a siege battle report on my blog - linkThe other set of rules to consider would be Lion Rampant, I'm sure someone will have done a siege variant. Good luck with the project! Cheers, Clive.

Hi Clive,
Thank you very much for the link to your blog. Very inspiring! I have Lion Rampart as well as Neil Thomas' Ancient rules. Both look promising. I also bought a copy of Medieval Tactica. Although I never enjoyed their other Ancient rules, I heard good things about the Medieval siege rules for over thirty years!
Cheers, Nick

"Medieval soldier model toy set: including medieval soldiers, TANK (!!?), castle,...." Looks like a useful buy with minimal work. I wonder which piece of equipment got labelled as a "tank'? The " tortoise" probably. ( battering ram with shed on wheels). I may have to build one for my 40mm Elastolins. Ross
