I need to start a new period like I need a hole in the head, but the Chintoys Conquistadors have captured my imagination. I am not interested in the Spanish-Aztec conflict, but I am interested in the possibilities of ship to ship action during the 16th Century. I'm not that familiar with the period, but would the figures from the Conquistador set work for the Armada, forty years later, or other fights with pirates in the Caribbean? Thanks,
Nick Stern

Yes they would work well for the Armada, the Chintoys figures are superb sculpts, I'm using them with Cherilea and Barzo Conquistadors to build armies for the Wars of Religion in the late C16th.

Excellent! What figures are you using for artillerymen and cannon?

Hi Zuludon, sorry for late reply (I've been away) I haven't started the artillery yet but will be using A Call to Arms ECW gunners with a few head changes to morion helmets. I find these are very adaptable for unusual periods, I've already used them for Imperial Chinese and have some that Rossmac converted to Egyptians and Ottomans. I'll also convert a few pirates to make laborers pressed into service.
For guns I may use the ACTA ECW one but I also have several of the old Britains "17th Century cannon" and the Elastolin guns that went with their landschnects, which may do the job. I also pick up Playmobil and Megablogs pirate ships ships cheaply at car boot sales, they often have bits missing but are easy enough to repair and go well with 54mm figures.

Thank you very much! I am new to the period and had completely forgotten about the ACTA ECW line! I just ordered two cannon and crew and extra gunners for my naval guns. I already have a collection of Playmobil ships - harder to find here in the States than in the UK or Europe - that I have used for my pirates. I am not going to stress about whether the naval guns are accurate to the 17th Century, they all look pretty generic to me. I've been thinking about gaming this period ever since seeing Errol Flynn in Captain Blood!

Hope to see more pics once you paint them, T. I'm especially struck by the mounted chap, as finding mounted Spaniards for my Conquistador collection has always been a struggle. I have a set of the Reamsa cavalry, and they are nice sculpts, but being 60mm makes them a little big for my needs.
