I have a couple boxes of the Expeditionary Force Ancient Greeks which I am planning to paint as Jason and the Argonauts figures to use with converted Playmobil Roman Galley ships. These would have bronze helmets and black armour.
The shields are round and plain and I was wanting to put on a ram's head. How do you all paint designs on these shields?
Are there any kind of decals for them? Or is there some source for a ram's head design which is kind of 3D which can be glued on and then painted?

Hi marchand,
Unfortunately, there don't seem to be any transfers about for 54mm. Don't know why nobody makes any. So you have a few options as I see it.
1 find pictures of shield patterns and photocopy to the correct size and cut out and paste Onto the shield. That's what I've done for some of my figures.
2 buy 40mm transfers and photocopy to the correct size and do the above.
3 paint your own!!! But if you're like me, not only does it take hours, but if you did the same pattern on the shields, every one of mine would be different, no matter has much I tried to do the same.
Last Sunday, I was at a model show, and one guy, who was a brilliant painter, told me how he got over the problem of painting a Celtic pattern on a figures shield - and it was quite a big shield.
He found the pattern he wanted, photocopied it to the correct size, then traced it onto tracing paper. He then reversed the tracing paper and put it on the shield and rubbed over it (like we used to do at school with maps) and the pencil left the outline on the shield as a guide, which he then painted.
It worked on the resin material of the shield - don't know how it would take on the material used for Ex-Force figures, but possibly worth a go.
Don't know if that helps, but good luck.
Best Wishes Dave
