Nice, so you'll be using area movement then? Have you tried playing around with Azgaar's Fantasy Map Generator? It's free, and browser based (but you can save/download all your work) and might be a good way to make some more detailed regional maps if you've a mind to. azgaar.github.io/Fantasy-Map-Generator/

Thanks for the link! I took a quick look, particularly at the army generation. I don't think it is what I need. It seems to take all the fun away by relying on the AI to generate things using - to my mind - dubious algorithms. For me, a large part of the fun is making the stuff up, and discovering how some things work that you hadn't realized. Like how I decided to use all the Glorantha source material I have had lying around for 25+ years to generate the nucleus of my Tharkallan Emperor's list, and then deciding to add the Dara Happan Emperors as they were in the same set of booklets. And then realizing, quite by accident, that those lists would generate My Carmanian list as well, and on top of that, set up the relationship between the two countries. I should also add, that two other areas: Turan and Saird* also get embellished by the DH lists, quite by accident. And, all the other stuff, like cities mentioned in the DH lists that I had already placed on the map, but now that placement actually seems to make some sort of sense. Or how the myth of one city being destroyed by a planet/meteor/celestial object could fit quite well into the mythology of my Atlan Confederacy amazons. I'm also discovering the knock-on effects of stuff I decided, "on the fly", when typing up my descriptions for the Tharkallan Emperors. The names come from the Gloranthan source material, and the first Emperor was indeed reincarnated twice, but my list deviates substantially after that. The Imperial Proxies, and their type, are from the sources, but what their function was I made up; not sure how close it is to the original as the source I referenced for the names didn't go into details (they may have been detailed elsewhere in another work I have read, however.) If the functions do match it might be because of some old memory of some other text, I don't know, and haven't bothered to check. In the original list only the first Emperor, Takanegi, comes back more than once. I decided to make more of them do so, mainly because I had 605 years to fill in. Of course, that led to a whole host of other things: a friend asked me if they were the same entity or different ones. i.e. were there multiple emperors (entities) or a single one who just comes back time and again, but sometimes with different personalities (and, in Lohwand, sometimes with a different gender.) Of course, I don't know what the answer is. In addition, the other day is suddenly occurred to me that the Emperor(s) might have offspring! I hadn't thought of that! so, do they reincarnate? (I think not.) So now I "have" to generate a huge family tree of sons and daughters, some of whom might still be alive in the current game time period. I wonder how many of the Imperial assassinations were orchestrated by a disaffected Prince or Princess?! So while the map making in PowerPoint can be a little tedious at times: "select shape/edit points" do the edit, etc..., it is ultimately more satisfying. The area I'm detailing right now I've been focused on for a while, working out potential campaigns. This is the first attempt at quantifying things, however, and I am a little worried it might not work. I added the Exiles in the last week or so, they being from another part of Glorantha; the Glorantha reasons fit so well that I felt I should add them. MGF, More Game Fun, as they say. In Glorantha, they are rebels from conquered Tarsh; in Lohwand, they are from conquered Nemedia. The question is: will the three areas I've assigned them be enough to generate useful military forces? (The whole purpose being to generate wargames.) I suppose those wargames don't have to be large battles, but I am still wondering how its going to work out. Area Movement: Yes, I decided to try and add roads, and lower level details would be self-defeating, particularly as I want to map not just the entire Tharkallan Empire but also their foes and those nations farther afield. I might go back a redraw certain areas in more detail, but that is for the future. * Turan was placed because it had to be next to the Sea of Vilayet, per Conan, and Saird I just happened to place in close proximity to Dara Happa, so it fits quite well with the Gloranthan sources.

Awesome. Yes, I too find little throwaway details can expand into hugely significant matters while worldbuilding and I love it as well! I've only ever used that generator for maps and names (you can select the language base for random name generation, including fantasy languages iirc). Have you considered overlaying a hex grid on the map after finishing the details?

I've only ever used that generator for maps and names (you can select the language base for random name generation, including fantasy languages iirc). Have you considered overlaying a hex grid on the map after finishing the details? Looks like I'll have to take a closer look - a name generator could be useful as I used up a good chunk of Hyboria-sourced names just doing Nemedia Province! I am a bit wary of hex maps in general. I used to love the old Judges Guild maps but I hate it when features are made to follow the hex lines. (So what should be straight roads zig-zag etc.) This whole thing started with me wondering "what can I do with PowerPoint?" What can I get out of it, or get it to do? So I'm trying to stick with that. I actually have made a PP presentation describing Nemedia but want to figure out the fief data and add that before I post it. The Nemedia map I posted is the cover page, then I look at each city and Prefecture in turn. Howard

Ah that's a good way to organize it.
And yeah, if you click "Tools" in the menu and then "Namesbase" under "Click to configure" you can select what language to use from a huge list including Quechua, Swahili, Celtic, and fantasy ones like elven, orc, and even arachnid, and it will spit out a huge list of generated names.
Some orc examples: ModhOdod,BodRugniz,Rildral,Zalbrez,Bebugh,Grurro,Ibruzzed,Goccogmurd,CheganKhed,BedgezGraz,IkhUgnan,NoGolkon,Dhezza
And elven: Cyla,Cyonore,Cyrangroth,Doladress,Dolarith,Dolasea,Dolonde,Dorthore,Dorwine,Draethe,Dranzan,Draugaust,Dreghei,Drelhei,Dryndlu,E'ana,E'ebel,Eahil,Edhil,Edraithion
And...arachnid: Iri,Isicer,Isnir,Ivrid,Kaalzux,Keezut,Kheellavas,Kheizoh,Khellinqesh,Khiachod,Khika,Khinchi,Khirzur,Khivila,Khonrud,Khontid,Khosi,Khrakku,Khraqshis,Khrerrith

Wouldn't you know it! Yesterday I was playing "sawbones", lopping the legs off a Satrap Guard cavalry figure so I could fit him a top the armoured horse from the Scythed Chariot set. ...and today I learn that XForce is already well-advanced on making Persian Cataphract cavalry! Don't those look grand! I'm going to continue with my Dr Moreau act still, however, as it will give me even more heavily armoured cavalry than these. I was looking at sculpting the leg and arm armour onto the figures as well. Rather than scales, I think I will try the overlapping metal bands. And the Chariots? Not wasted. They are going to be pulled by giant tigers, three each, and will go into my Pan Tang battalia. And, if I can work it, I will try and make them modular so I can use horses or tigers and swap them between Pan Tang and some other army - that hopefully will never meet!
