I received my pre-ordered Jacobite Rising game from Compass games yesterday. At first look over I was disappointed that it closely resembled the AWI game Tricorne. Today a friend and I played a test game using the Falkirk Stage 1 scenario. It was a lot of fun and had a completely different feeling compared to Tricorne. The game played historically and could have gone either way. I also got to field my Replicants Highllanders. My AWI Minutemen stood in for the Lowland units and most of the Government forces were AWI British. My plan is to gradually replace them with proper mid 18th Century uniformed units from Replicants and AIP. Aside from 7 scenarios for The 45 the are an additional 5 scenarios from the earlier conflicts.

A part of the British cavalry look like Men of 76 swoppets.
XForce will be doing an 18th century range which will include figure sets for the"45, but that range is a couple of years from release.

My, what sharp eyes you have! I plan to replace the Swoppets officers with closer scale AIP AWI mounted officers. I am sure the XForce '45 figures will be great and worth the wait.

That games looks amazing, Nick. As I approach the cusp of my golden years I find I actually prefer simpler, more stylized boards to the hyper-realistic, moving diorama style one sees in WI, so this is right up my alley. Out of curiosity, who won?

Thanks, Daryl! The Jacobites won, as they did historically. The photos show the starting positions. As you can see, the Government cavalry and the first ranks of Highlanders set up only two hexes apart. The Gov. side (I) got the first card and my cavalry charged the Highlanders, got beaten back and then the Highlanders slammed into the cavalry. After that was a steady push forward by the Highlanders on their right and center. Not to take anything away from my worthy opponent, but I kept getting activation cards only for my right flank, impeded by the ravine. All very historical.

I am posting a few more photos of the game in process. Boy, all those tartans were a pain to paint! Nick

But they turned out so well! I especially like the tartan in the last picture, the chap to the right pointing the pistol. And glad of course to hear the Stuarts won: sent 'em back tae think again, eh?
Thank you for sharing, Nick!

EDIT: Hmmm, not sure where the quote went. Anyway, I gather you can tell what I'm responding to...
