Replicating Beck's Pony Wars project in all its glory (6x8 table with modelled ridges and buttes, the fort, Indian village, multiple cavalry troops, characters, buffalo, 600 mounted braves, etc.) has for years been my biggest hobby dream-not-yet-realised; but then I start thinking about collecting all that, much less painting and storing it, and I lose steam. The fact that Baccus seems to be releasing a range in 6mm is intriguing, but 6's have so much less character than 15's that I'm not sure they'll get the blood boiling to a sufficient degree. I'll watch with interest, though.
Still have my copy of the original rules. I crack it out sometimes just for the sheer pleasure of the read, and the dreams it evokes. Hoping very much they don't make the new version woke or PC - they claim they won't but we live in interesting times...

I've only played them once, and I'm not entirely sure if the GM was using them "straight up" or not. For example, do the Settlers only get a D6 of bullets which they roll for only when attacked by the Indians? Another rule was that the Cavalry Sgts got to roll each time they were killed to see if they carried on. A rule said to be inspired by the old movies where the old sarge took arrow after arrow but kept on fighting. Or so it was explained to me. I use the concept in my rules: Heroes take variable wounds. I've also used it in skirmish games where the players only have a squad of marines or so vs hordes of ... whatever...zombies, aliens, etc. Makes for a very suspenseful game!
