Hello, one of my ongoing projects is to discover the modern equivalent paint colours of the old Deetail models - specifically the WW2 ones which is the period I collect and wargame. My idea is to paint models according to this charming and unhistorical colour scheme. The recent re-issues are far too ‘realistic’. The process is a frustrating one because I am (A) busy (B) lazy (C) OCD when it comes to getting things ‘right’. Has anyone attempted this sort of thing?

You might send an email to DSG in Argentina and ask them the paint/colors that they use? They have been taking over the Deetail stuff and I frankly like them better.

I saw those. I noticed that they only do the non-Super Deetail model. Are they still going?

Yep DSG is still going, or at least I think so. I have been buying them on Ebay from a couple people in Argentina. I have a lot now so will be using them to play the portable wargame and Big Battles. I think the Super Deetail guys were made with colored plastic where as the deetail guys were hand painted.

Ah hah! Finally I the formula for Deetail Germans. Well a formula. I used 90% of Craft Smart “Aqua” to 10% mid grey. The Aqua was from a brand of craft paint called Color Smart and is a sort of mid-turquoise. It is now bottled with some thinner and is set to be used to create some vintage style toy soldiers. British worked with Vallejo’s US. Field Drab whilst I understand their Golden Olive matches the Americans. Now, I just need to sort out the Japanese. This will involve trying to obtain a sample but you would not believe what people are asking for on ebay!

For US members, Treefrog Treasures has many new sets of Britains Deetail figures at the best prices I have found. And, unlike eBay, you pay no tax. For example, a 12 figure set of assorted knights and Turks will set you back $30. That's only $2.50 each! 6 dismounted 7th Cavalry are the also $2.50 each. www.treefrogtreasures.com/c-387-plastic-figures.aspxNick Stern
