Very nice! Are you going to leave them singly based or mount them on multiple bases?

Nicely done! I've used acrylics since the 70's but I used to also use enamels till 2 things persuaded me to drop them.
1. Minor issue: They seem to have slightly more of a tendancy to flake off plastic when it bends (like rifle barrels that flex etc) although proper preparation can reduce the risk.
2. My wife of many years has a strong negative reaction to the smell of enamels and paint thinners, reaction of the bad headache and woozy insides sort and is not shy about sharing her displeasure.

I plan to keep them based as is for now. If the wife is unhappy with enamels then by all means avoid enamels! Happy wife, happy life! I just think that having never used them I was pleasantly surprised by the coverage and ease of use.

Just washed and scrubbed 33 more figures now that I am comfortable. These come in packs of 16 rank and file with 2 officers. Units of 9 will work just fine with Big Wars I think. I have a total of 6 packages of 18 foot and 2 packages of 5 mounted Uhlans to do then when done I will add some more cavalry and a few guns and the Prussian army for this game will be done. Next will be the French, though I may do a what if and run them against Confederates etc who knows. Looking forward to playing to be honest!

Thank you guys. I have been spoiled with all the information available regarding the Seven Years war that is online. When looking for information on uniforms etc regarding the Franco-Prussian war its been tough. I found a book that I really must have, however the price is putting that on hold for now. I did manage to find a copy of Ospreys armies of Prussia and its on the way. I appreciate the kind words. I think under a magnifying glass they leave a lot to be desired, however at arms length and on the table they are looking good. I do like the effect of using Matt enamels with a gloss varnish. I really still am hardpressed on how to explain just how much easier enamels are to paint with than water based. For me I should say at least. Maybe its the fact they do not run as easy, or maybe its just they are naturally easier to control? They do seem to cover much easier than water based. To get a red like that with water based on a gray undercoat would of taken a couple of coats at least.
I am half tempted to paint up units and sell them as I gain experience in order to eventually purchase some unpainted Imperial miniature castings that look amazing. Mike has really worked very hard managing 2 different lines, getting the website up and its a monumental amount of work for one person!
I do plan on in the near future taking the Big Wars 2 rules out for a spin using the Prussians against my large collection of DSG and Britains Detail Confederates. I am a northerner and harbor no good will to the rebellion, however they were just the first side I found deals on to collect first. Union will be on the way eventually!
