Inspired by Brian Carrick's blog: toysoldiercollecting.blogspot.com/2020/10/a-crimean-one-hour-wargame.html# I have begun collecting miniatures for that conflict. There are a surprising number of metal figures out there, but there appears to be a dearth of cheap or reasonably priced figures and so I am looking at fielding small, 8 figure infantry units and 4 or 5 figures for cavalry. The AIP Charge of the Light Brigade are a notable exception to the expensive figures and I think I can convert the Light Dragoon figures into Heavy Dragoons with a head swap. The majority of my metal figures will be the fine Dorset collection, which, even with international shipping, are quite reasonable and fit in well with the few Britains and Frontline figures I've been able to afford.
Really, I've got to stop being so easily inspired.
Is anyone else out there doing this period?

Nick,
I once considered using Irregular Miniatures metals for the period until I read their advice to just use their Napoleonic range for the line infantry! Currently Mike and I are considering the period in 28mm, but if there was a good 54mm plastic range out there that didn't need converting I'd jump on it.
Cheers Anthony

I have large Armies in 20/25mm (well sort of) mixed old school Hinton Hunt, Douglas Miniatures, Minifigs and some other unknowns and do a bit in 1:1 scale as well - sadly can't upload pics as the forum has exceeded its attachment space limit (whatever that means)

I am going to see if I can do a head swap with Dorset Albert shako heads on Airfix Waterloo British Infantry. The shoulder wings mean they will have to be Fusiliers. Unfortunately, I cannot find a plastic source for the Russians in their long overcoats.

I have painted the AIP Crimean War figures. For infantry I'd use Napoleonic British; if you want to be exact add a paper or putty peak at the rear of the shako and a cap pouch on the front cross belt. Also I once made Mexican grenadiers 'of the Supreme Power) for the Mexican War, converting BMX Mexicans by adding putty bearskins; British for the Crimean War could be made the same way or even use Napoleonic French Grenadiers in trousers by filling in the plate on the fur hat. AIP Russian or Prussian Napoleonic infantry could also be used for the other side.
