A new rule book and range of 28mm figures is out. The premise is post apocalyptic but taking the form of Baum's world. The weapons and uniforms are Napoleonic or 18th century. Then there is magic, various beasties etc. The Winkies are human sized but with yellow skin. The Munchkins are childlike in proportions (in the original novesl the were the size of an 11 year old girl - Dorothy). The Quadlings are human sized but with pronounced bear bellies.
Anyhow I have ordered the book but I'm doing this in 1:32 scale with figures around 43mm for Munchkins. The question is do I have them just as smaller scale humans or give them bigger heads? So far I have converted firemen and copies of Herald modern infantry into artillerymen and I have also converted HK WW2 into grenadiers to pad out some 43mm home cast grenadiers. I may also get some of the smaller scale Mokarex Napoleonic French cavalry. The Munchkins ride various coloured horses - pink, blue, purple and even brown.
I'll probably use the Wars of Ozz army lists and just portions of the rules incorporated in my own Chainmail derived fantasy rules. I'm thinking of having a minus 1 for the Munchkins in close combat but I'll probably supplement them with my medieval type dwarves that will not have such a penalty.
Anyhow, mu plan is to plonk my own Ozzz (just had to add another z) down in my fantasy world map so when the surrounding desert is finally breached the Ozzz denizens will be able to fight my Fezians, Aztecs, Undead from Necrolia, Mongols, Beersteiners, Bogavanians, Dark Elves, Hillmen (Vikings and highlanders supplemented by the odd woolly mammoth), orcs, Patrans (ancient Greeks, Romans and Egyptians) or whoever else turns up.
For Quadlings I'll use 1/32 Napoleonics or AWI. For Winkies I may convert Napoleonics. zouaves or British grenadiers! I have already also attached wings to some random plastic monkeys and I'll be collecting apes as in the list there are ape units (with no wings). Various 'dire creatures are also available and undead and a bell which summons more.
Then there are witches and sorcerers. Oh, and the Munchkins get hot air balloons.
As the Ozzz denizens have flintlock muskets they will have an edge over my matchlock and bow armed armed nations. Their artillery will also be 100 years more advanced.
For those who didn't know Baum's Wizard of Oz in 1900 was followed by about thirteen more novels and after his death at least forty more by other authors.
