Not aliens from another world, but Wells' The War in the Air posits a world war in 1908 instigated by German and Japanese air fleets, Zeppelins and early flying machines. The War in the Air is part of the historical backdrop of Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill's series The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

I’ve been looking at my 54mm Britains ( and fellow travellers) figures and thinking about their use. I fancy doing some Portable Wargame games with them in the new year and having been looking for a new opposition for them. Initially I wondered about this as a background- en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Swoop! but decided I was looking for something more exotic. I thought l would pick the brains of you all here and ask if there were any other Invasions of Earth novels like War of the Worlds but with different alien invaders? Ideally the opposition to my Britains would be less gigantic than wotw, potentially more humanoid in height. Any thoughts gentlemen? Just as an alternative how about the reverse, where the aliens are less technologically advanced but have the odd bug eyed monster and maybe some flying machines. I have done the Victorian era humans with space technology invading Mars/Barzoom. For that the humans are the aliens. The Red Martians were converted form Red Indians. 60mm Cherilea Egyptians were my Synthetic Martians. Green Martians were Technolog orcs. I also converted some largish lions and an ape, giving them extra legs or arms from wire and putty.
