I’ve been looking at my 54mm Britains ( and fellow travellers) figures and thinking about their use. I fancy doing some Portable Wargame games with them in the new year and having been looking for a new opposition for them. Initially I wondered about this as a background- en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Swoop! but decided I was looking for something more exotic. I thought l would pick the brains of you all here and ask if there were any other Invasions of Earth novels like War of the Worlds but with different alien invaders? Ideally the opposition to my Britains would be less gigantic than wotw, potentially more humanoid in height. Any thoughts gentlemen?

You could base them on the Harry Turtledove World War novels and use Lizardmen, just set the invasion slightly earlier? Not sure about figures - but I would have through that some of the aliens we bought from Mithmee would do? Must admit I've only painted up 5 of them so far!
Otherwise it would be The Battle of Dorking with Germans invading.
I do love Swoop as a book though.

just read a couple of follow-ups to WOTW and one on books about other invasions of GB from Europe but nothing on othe ET invaders. All that comes to mind are the Treens, Dan Dare etc and not Victorian, but the Britains Space men might fit the role? And of course the Daleks - they invade every century at least! Why not just choose the Aliens you like best from the whole genre and do them - figure availability allowing of course - that's what I did.
Facinated to hear what others have on this one - great topic.

Alan, if you go for Daleks then Corgi do lovely 54mm models. The only type missing is the Special Weapons Dalek, but you don't need that to have a good game!

Actually it was my partner-in-crime TOM (the other Mike!) Bell who did it. I am asking him for details and photos. I think I blew it up in our last game involving these dastardly monsters...but it will reappear I am sure!

Eaglemoss made a Special Weapons Dalek that fits in pretty well with the Corgi 54mm Daleks. It's a nice piece!

Having checked with TOM, the Eaglemoss figure is indeed the one he used for our games. I will post some photos. Apologies for misleading you - I know very little about the Daleks my self!
And apolgies to Mike for derailing the thread! I will post the Daleck photos in a new thread.
