I remember them well - and being rather disappointed with them when they came out, much as I was with the Britians attempt. Now I rather like them, but still not taken with WBs. There is plenty of variety, too much really for a single set - two sets 'Heroes' and 'Villains' would have been a better approach IMHO.
I have reaquired a couple of sets and the odd loose figure with the intention of writing a piece on them for Plastic Warrior (https://plasticwarrioreditor.blogspot.com/) but have hard a hard time gathering any real info on them - designer etc. I do know there were a couple (at least) different boxes, and they were reproduced in Greece as a boxed set. I was also planing on including them as the retro element in my Kraken Nebulae (which I now know should have been Galaxy!) X-genre setting.
Thanks for the post and the link to your blog - any other thoughts on the inspiration sources for the figures? The ideas you give sound spot on to me. Nice paint jobs too.

yeah I really like those airfix figures they are quite strange but I like the imagination behind them.
That's a decent collection of cylons you've collected. I've seen some 28mm 3d prints avaliable that could be scaled up? They don't have the same dynamic poses though.
