I’ve been having a look at the various ranges of Lord of the Rings miniatures and toys. What are the scales of the various ranges? From what I can tell Eaglemoss is a bit larger than 54mm, but the high street ones are a little smaller?

Britains did an aborted 54mm range of LOTR figures, which stopped after releasing Orcs, Uruk Hai and some characters. Sadly they didn't get as far as making any 'Good' soldiers. There was/is a 40mm range of pre-painted clix figures which covered most of what you would need for the War of the Ring.

If I recall correctly the Eaglemoss Collectors Models range was 1/29 scale. Their nice chess LOTR figures were at least a couple scales - pawns often being smaller than 1/29.
In plastic the factory painted Armies of Middle Earth range was pretty extensive and good imho. c60mm size wise. No longer produced but lots come up on ebay particularly with the Helms Deep playset.

I've got a bunch of the plastic moria goblins that work well in 54mm but would probably be too big for smaller goblin figures. The uruk are quite a bit bigger but I love that they are all prepainted to a fairly decent standard!

Ah, it looks like the Armies of Middle Earth range is what I am looking for then. Good to know you are the Drum and Flag master! I check your site all the time but haven’t placed an order yet. Have my eye on that box of spares and repairs.

I thought it was Zizzle that did the 'heroic scale' pre-painted LOTR figures? Name is under the base but all mine are out of reach at the mo. Will check. They are hefty 1/32 54mm closed to 1/30 60mm with the orks very chunky and the goodies less so and in some cases very slight.
years ago at a Donnington Toy show I was offered all the sets for about £8GBP a set but decided, as I wasn't into LOTR, I didn't want them...bloody fool. They convert into all kinds of great characters and have a real flair - Renaissance Adventurers, Pirates, Mordheim for example.
I have managed to aquire a few over the years on eBay etc but they are rather more than £8 a set! Have enjoyed their separate bits greatly as they make reposing etc a doddle. I am currently converting some for my Cardianal's Blades/3 Musketeers games.
